Amit Malviya criticised the Mamata Banerjee and said that under her leadership, “West Bengal has become the most unsafe state for women.” Continuing further he wrote, “She has done nothing to enforce the stringent rules and establish Fast Track Courts to punishing accused in rapes and POCSO cases. She is an unmitigated disaster as a Chief Minister and must resign.”
India today had also reported about the on duty nurse who was molested in a government run hospital in Birbhum. The incident happened when she was administering a saline drip to the accused man. She alleged that the man not only inappropriately touched her but had also used offensive language for her.
Overall, even after the RG Kar incident, such shocking incidents are nothing but merely the most recent ones, in the string of sexual abuse instances being reported from West Bengal. These instances do indeed raise serious concerns over women’s safety in West Bengal.
