Calcutta High Court’s Hard-Hitting Questions to the West Bengal Government

In a recent court hearing, the Calcutta High Court posed several hard-hitting questions to the West Bengal government and police:

  • Why did the state intelligence wing fail to prevent a mob of over 7,000 from gathering?
  • If Mamata Banerjee can impose Section 144 for any reason, why wasn’t it enacted that night?
  • If the police couldn’t protect their own officers, how can they protect the public?

The series of incidents and the court’s questions raise concerns about whether the state is even interested in maintaining law and order, particularly the rising violence and the threat to Women. The state under Mamata Banerjee has always been on the side of the perpetrator’s, report.
