Balochistan: BLA Claims 25 Pakistani Soldiers Killed In Two Attacks

Pakistan is facing another serious security challenge in Balochistan after the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for two attacks on Pakistani security forces that it said killed 25 military personnel.

The attacks took place in Ziarat and Surab on September 4, with the BLA claiming that 18 soldiers were killed in a convoy ambush at Ziarat Cross and seven more in a separate attack in the Hajika area of Surab. The casualty figures have not been independently verified by authorities.

BLA Escalates Attacks

According to the BLA, its fighters ambushed four vehicles belonging to a Pakistani military convoy at Ziarat Cross, destroying two of them and seizing weapons from the site.

In a separate operation, the group’s Special Tactical Operations Squad claimed responsibility for remotely detonating an explosives-laden vehicle against a Pakistani military vehicle in Surab.

The BLA also released footage through its media wing, Hakkal, claiming to show the attacks and their aftermath. The authenticity and full circumstances shown in the footage remain unverified.

Pakistan Launches Counter-Operations

Islamabad responded with major security operations across Balochistan.

Pakistan’s military said its forces had killed 48 militants during intelligence-based operations over a 72-hour period in areas including Mastung, Quetta, Kalat and Sibi. The military said those targeted included members of the BLA and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The competing claims show the scale of the violence unfolding across the province.
