Haridwar Administration Demolishes Illegal Mazar Built on Government Land

Must Read

On Wednesday morning, the Haridwar district administration executed a surgical strike against illegal land occupation in the Suman Nagar area. Utilizing bulldozers and a heavy security contingent, officials razed a 10×15 metre structure locally identified as the tomb of “Roshan Ali Shah Baba.”

The most striking revelation of the day came after the dust settled: no human remains, ancient relics, or historical structures were found beneath the platform. Instead, the excavation revealed only a few bricks and some one-rupee coins hidden under a fig tree. This discovery confirms that the structure was not a site of historical or religious significance, but a strategic encroachment on public land.

Due Process

Critics often claim “sudden action,” but the Haridwar administration proved that this was a victory for the rule of law.

  • One-Month Notice: The caretakers (Khadims) were given 30 days to produce ownership or construction permits.

  • Lack of Evidence: Zero valid documents were submitted to the Irrigation Department, which owns the land.

  • Peaceful Vacation: Seeing the legal dead-end, the caretakers voluntarily removed their belongings before the administration’s bulldozers moved in.

The “Green-Blue Sheet” Tactic

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been vocal about the “business of encroachment” that plagues the state. The tactic is simple: cover a piece of government land with green or blue sheets, call it a religious site, and wait for it to become “untouchable.”

The Haridwar action is a blueprint for the rest of the state. By clearing approximately 600 illegal structures so far, the Uttarakhand government is sending a clear message: Devbhoomi is not a dumping ground for illegal expansion. Protecting the Sanatan character of centres like Haridwar requires this level of clinical, document-based decisiveness.

A Strategic Necessity

The “Zero Tolerance” policy is not just about moving bricks; it is about restoring the integrity of the state’s geography. When a supposed “sacred tomb” turns out to be an empty shell used to occupy Irrigation Department property, it proves that these structures are often tactical, not spiritual.

For the security and cultural preservation of Haridwar, the administration must not stop here. Every inch of encroached forest, irrigation, and public land must be recovered.
