The Crown Prosecution Service of the UK posted a warning to social media platform X. On Wednesday warning citizens to “Think before you post!” amid ongoing riots that have fractured the country’s polity.

“Content that incites violence or hatred isn’t just harmful – it can be illegal,” the government agency wrote. “The CPS takes online violence seriously and will prosecute when the legal test is met. Remind those close to you to share responsibly or face the consequences.”

The director of public prosecutions of England and Wales, Stephen Parkinson, previously warned against “publishing or distributing material which is insulting or abusive which is intended to or likely to start racial hatred. So, if you retweet that, then you’re republishing that and then potentially you’re committing that offense [incitement to racial hatred].”

The UK official shared that police dedicated police officers who are scouring social media. “Their job is to look for this material, and then follow up with identification, arrests, and so forth.”

UK Threatens To Jail US Citizens

One key aspect that makes this apparent crackdown on social media particularly shocking to critics is that the British government is threatening to extradite American citizens from the U.S. to be jailed in the U.K. for violating their rules about political speech online, reports.

London’s Metropolitan Police chief warned that officials will not only be cracking down on British citizens for commentary on the riots in the U.K. but on American citizens as well.

“We will throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you’re in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told Sky News.

Prominent Cases:

Tyler was sentenced to 38 months in prison for copying a post made on X by Lucy Connolly, the wife of a Conservative councilor.

The post read: “Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f*king hotels full of the ba*ards for all I care…If that makes me a racist, so be it.”

In the next post, he mentioned that he copied the post to show that it was two-tier policing that Lucy was arrested, but he will not be arrested. But the police disagreed so he was arrested and in Court. Tyler tried defending himself saying that he was immature, and had grown up in care. He also mentioned that he would lose his council house as a result of a prison sentence.

But the Judge ruled saying he “clearly intended to incite serious violence.”. The Juge then sentenced Tyler, a father of 3, to prison for 3 years and 2 months. Even though he posted that he had posted the post that he wanted to test the policing and was not his thoughts the Judge Disagreed.

People on X expressed their frustration that police were more interested in arresting a person who posted some offensive comments on Facebook, rather than focusing on the 3 brutal murders of children.

This Portrays The Two-Tier Justice System Followed By The UK

Although the post is untrue about the rape accused. This post shows exactly what is wrong with the UK justice system

  • Al Soaimi, 21 during the trial and 15 at the time of committing crimes, was a co-defendant in a larger case of a gang whose members’ total sentences exceeded 36 years. According to the spring 2024 police press release that summarized the outcome of the child sexual exploitation case involving two victims between 12 and 14.
    • Judge ruling addressed Al Soaimi’s sentencing:
      • Co-accused Hamoud Al-Soaimi, 21, of Byker, was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.
      • He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. And handed a lifetime restraining order while he will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
  • The person who posted a racist comment was sentenced to 15 weeks in jail.
  • Then the person who sold anti-immigration stickers was sentenced to 24 months in prison.

A Man Can Be Let Out For Underage Rape But Not For A Social Media Post

UK Two Teir Justice

Ricky Jones, a Labour councilor, has been remanded in custody after allegedly calling for the murder of right-wing protesters. A video that surfaced showed Jones referring to the protesters as “disgusting Nazi fascists” and suggesting, “We need to cut their throats and get rid of them.”

Jones’ lawyer argued for leniency, claiming that his client was not motivated by an “ideological narrative.”. But Jones remains in custody, with a further hearing scheduled for September.

Here the point to note is how it is being delayed while other cases involving online posts of anti-immigration are carried out at a lightning pace.

For instance, Tyler Kay received a 38-month prison sentence for posting anti-immigrant remarks online. While Jordan Parlour was sentenced to 20 months for a similar offense.

This disparity has raised the question of swift justice, as promised by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Doubts arise in the justice being applied with double standards, particularly concerning anti-immigration demonstrators versus those on the political left.

Reactions

  • Joe Rogan
    • Rogan shared his opinion on a podcast comparing the new crackdown reminds him of the Soviet Union. This should come as a surprise as Russia may have fewer people arrested for social media posts than the UK.
    • And he also expressed that it’s wild that they are arresting people for expressing something that they disagree with in 2024.

  • Elon Musk
    • He shared his sarcastic thoughts on the future of the UK where you can be executed for commenting on Social media.
