Mysuru Under Siege: “Peacefuls” Attacks Police Station Over a Meme

Must Read

A violent “peaceful” mob stormed the Udayagiri Police Station in Mysuru, Karnataka, on 10th February 2025. Why? “Peacefuls” were triggered by a WhatsApp status posted by a Hindu youth named Suresh. The violence left at least 14 police vehicles and 10 police personnel injured, including two inspectors.

Despite the Mysuru police swiftly arresting Suresh and filing a case, the enraged mob refused to disperse and instead unleashed large-scale violence. The incident highlights the growing trend of “peaceful” mob justice in Karnataka. Moreover, it raises serious concerns about law and order in the state.

Mysuru Meme Sparks “Peaceful” Chaos

It all began when Suresh, a resident of Kalyangiri Nagar, posted a meme related to the BJP’s Delhi election victory on his Whatsapp status. The image allegedly depicted political leaders Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Akhilesh Yadav in skull caps with the caption “Three Idiots!”

“Peacefuls” claimed the meme was offensive and immediately mobilized, demanding severe action.

Maulvi Mufti Mushtaq Maqbuli allegedly incited the mob, which soon turned violent. The peacefuls were unhappy with the arrest of Suresh, they wanted the police to hand him over for street justice! Thankfully, the police refused to hand over the Hindu man. By midnight, over 1,000 people had gathered outside the Udayagiri Police Station. As tensions escalated, provocative slogans filled the air. Stones rained down on the police station, police vehicles were set ablaze, and officers were brutally attacked.

Footage from the scene resembled the kind of mob violence seen in Islamic nations – only this time, it was unfolding in Karnataka.

Karnataka Appeasement Politics Emboldens “Peacefuls”

The attack has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition. BJP leaders have accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of emboldening radical elements through appeasement policies. Former MP Pratap Simha condemned the attack, calling it a shameful moment for civil society.

“This is a Taliban-style government, not a government for Kannadigas,” Simha declared.

Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka pointed out that the Congress administration had previously withdrawn cases against rioters involved in a similar police station attack in Hubballi. Thereby, setting a precedence that encourages such “peacefuls” mobs to act without fear!

Former CM Basavaraj Bommai compared the Mysuru attack to previous Islamist-led riots in Mangaluru, KG Halli in Bengaluru, and Hubballi. “When we were in power, we took strong action. However, the INC government withdrew cases against rioters. Who is protecting them? Are there political forces behind this?” he asked.

BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra warned that if no action is taken, Karnataka will descend into chaos.

Police Crack Down, But Questions Remain

Despite sustaining injuries, the police retaliated with firm action. The City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested 16 individuals so far, with CCTV footage identifying at least 50 suspects. Investigators discovered that the attack was premeditated, and coordinated via WhatsApp and social media.

Footage revealed mobs collecting stones in bags before launching their assault.

Over a thousand people participated, causing extensive damage to police property.
DCP M. Mutturaju’s vehicle and five other police cars were destroyed in the violence. Seven officers sustained serious injuries. ACP S.N. Sandesh Kumar led the investigation, but his abrupt transfer has raised eyebrows. Some speculate that political pressure might be interfering with the probe.

Meanwhile, Karnataka HM Parameshwara visited the site, promising strict action. CM Siddaramaiah issued a statement directing the police to identify and arrest all culprits. However, critics argue that his government’s soft stance on previous Islamist violence has created an environment where mobs believe they can act with impunity.

Karnataka – A Dangerous Pattern Emerges

The attack on the Udayagiri Police Station in Mysuru is not an isolated incident. It is part of a growing pattern of Islamist-led street violence in Karnataka. When mobs believe they can overpower the police and dictate the law, democracy itself is under threat. The vote-bank appeasement of INC ensures that “peacefuls” feel safe in wanting “Taliban-style” street justice against anyone!

Mysuru, once known as Karnataka’s cultural capital, now finds itself at the center of a law-and-order crisis. The question remains: Will the Congress government act decisively against the same Islamist rioters it realsed? Or will it once again sacrifice justice at the altar of appeasement politics?
