India’s security agencies have foiled a suspected terror conspiracy with the arrest of eight individuals, six of them from Tamil Nadu, in a coordinated intelligence-led operation. Authorities are now probing potential links to Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladesh-based networks, raising serious national security concerns.
The arrests were carried out in Tiruppur district, including Uthukuli, Palladam, and Thirumuruganpoondi. Two additional suspects had been detained earlier in connection with the same case. Officials confirmed that some of the arrested individuals are believed to be Bangladeshi nationals.
Fake Identities and Digital Trail
According to Delhi Police’s Special Cell, the investigation began after monitoring online posts that allegedly supported Pakistan-based terrorist organisations. The digital trail led investigators to Tamil Nadu, where suspects were reportedly employed in the Tiruppur garment industry.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accused used fraudulent Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities and secure employment. Authorities identified the arrested men as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, and Umar. Additionally, the list includes Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal.
Authorities seized eight mobile phones and sixteen SIM cards during the operation. These devices are now under forensic examination to trace communication networks across states.
Officials stated that the group allegedly conducted reconnaissance of several cities and was in contact with handlers suspected to have cross-border links.
Temple Under Threat
The arrests came shortly after intelligence inputs warned of a possible Lashkar-e-Taiba conspiracy targeting religious and tourist locations in Delhi. Sensitive areas in Old Delhi, including parts of Chandni Chowk, were flagged as potential targets.
Security agencies also warned of possible coordinated IED strikes at major Hindu shrines, including Akshardham Temple, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, ISKCON Temple Delhi, and Ram Mandir Ayodhya. These locations were reportedly chosen for their symbolic and cultural significance.
The timing of the arrests suggests that agencies acted before the alleged plot could move beyond preparatory stages.
Expanding Security Concerns
In a related development, another suspect was detained in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district over alleged contacts with Pakistani individuals. Investigators reportedly found several phone numbers with Pakistan’s country code stored in his device. The nature of those communications remains under examination.
The unfolding case underscores ongoing concerns about infiltration, forged identity documents, and digital radical networks operating within India’s borders. Authorities are now focused on mapping the full scope of the alleged conspiracy, identifying handlers, and assessing intended targets.
Vigilance and Preemption
Importantly, the swift intelligence coordination between central and state agencies prevented what could have been a major security incident. The case highlights the evolving nature of threats, where digital propaganda, identity fraud, and cross-border coordination converge.
As the accused are being transported to Delhi for further interrogation, investigators continue to piece together the operational chain. The probe now aims to determine whether this was an isolated module or part of a wider network operating across states.
