Role of Radical Mewat Muslims in Nuh Violence

Mewat is a region that encompasses parts of Haryana and Rajasthan. It has a diverse demographic population, including a sizable number of Muslim residents. The Nuh district is part of the Mewat region. The local Muslim community was personally invited by Mahatma Gandhi in 1947 to not stay with India at the time of partition. The large Muslim population of the region has led to the region being called the ‘Mini Pakistan’ of India.

Reports state that this community played a significant role in the recent anti-Hindu violence in Nuh. The radical Islamists were active in spreading misinformation on social media to incite unrest in Nuh that led to the anit-Hindu violence of 31st July 2023. Reports state that authorities partly attributed the circulation of inflammatory videos on social media as a cause for unrest. Police have arrested around 60 suspects in connection with the incidents. Additionally, 10 cases related to social media activities have been officially registered.

Reports show that the Nuh district in Haryana is home to a considerable number of illegal Rohingya refugees. The current official figures state that there are more than 2000 illegal Rohingyas resident in Nuh. These Muslim immigrants fled Myanmar to avoid persecution and genocide. However, the Indian government does not grant these refugees a status equivalent to a citizen. Any Indian job or property held by these illegal immigrants is unlawful in the eyes of the Indian government.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided many of them with refugee identity cards. Investigation finds that a number of the Rohingyas in the Nuh district possess this UN-issued refugee card. However, further investigations show the potential involvement of Rohingyas in the recent anti-Hindu Nuh violence. Currently, police have registered 20 cases against illegal Rohingyas residents. Additionally, 25 illegal Rohingyas have been detained by the police for the Nuh violence incident.

Thus, it is clear that authorities suspect that these illegal immigrants are a demographic force aptly used by the radical elements of Islam in India. Moreover, these immigrants pose a potential security threat to the democracy of India.

CM Khattar administration’s response to Nuh violence is ‘Bulldozer Justice’. The Haryana government has demolished 250 illegal slums inhabited by Rohingya refugees in Tavadu. The official claim is that the demolition is part of an anti-encroachment drive against the illegal occupation of forest department land. However, this form of justice is a page directly from the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s book. CM Khattar strict ‘Bulldozer’ action and instilling fear of law in the minds of illegal immigrants and radical elements in the region. The police and district administration suspect that illegal Rohingya refugees conduct criminal activities in the slums. Moreover, the authorities suspect these slums support anti-Hindu activities of radical Islamists in India. Therefore, the ‘Bulldozer’ action prevents future involvement of these elements which have spread all over the state.

Since a significant number of Rohingya refugees live in an illegal slum near the mini secretariat, this act is a warning to the Rohingyas in Haryana to abide by Indian law. Reports state that there are over 200 slums in the vicinity of this secretariat, which is a potential security threat. Additionally, authorities have found evidence implicating some of these illegal refugees in recent violent incidents and other criminal activities. Thus, CM Khattar is using the Bulldozer Justice formula to curb problems arising from radical Islamists of Haryana.

Conclusion

The anti-Hindu machinery has begun to rear its ugly head in the state of Haryana. They should be appropriately dealt with by state authorities at the fastest possible speed. Bulldozer Justice in Nuh shows that CM Khattar is contemplating appropriate actions to address the situation and issue warnings to radicals in the state. However, the involvement of Rohingya refugees in the violence has brought the issue of illegal immigrants in India to the forefront. Moreover, their support to radical Islamists in the Mewat region has raised questions on the security of Hindus in a Hindu-majority country. Currently, true Indians seek justice for Hindu victims of Nuh violence. Moreover, the nation demands strict punishment for all those who used this violence to shame India on a global front.
