On the 42nd anniversary of Operation Blue Star, the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar became the stage for a dangerous display of separatism. Shockingly, pro-Khalistan slogans echo inside the holy premises once again. Furthermore, radical elements openly displayed placards and posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Therefore, what should be a solemn day of remembrance quickly turned into a deliberate political stunt. The open glorification of anti-India forces continues to find unchecked space at the holiest shrine of the Sikhs.

The Reality of Operation Blue Star
To understand this outrage, we must revisit the dark reality of June 1984. The Indian Army launched Operation Blue Star to flush out heavily armed militants. These terrorists had fortified themselves inside the Golden Temple under Bhindranwale’s direct leadership. They had successfully turned the sacred Akal Takht into a massive weapons armory. Consequently, they orchestrated the targeted killings of innocent Hindus and paralyzed Punjab with absolute terror. While the military operation resulted in tragic casualties, it was an absolute necessity. The Indian state simply could not allow a religious shrine to operate as a terrorist headquarters.
The Dangerous Ideological Revival
Despite the passage of 42 years, the glorification of armed rebellion continues openly. Today, radical groups deliberately raised separatist chants while holding inflammatory posters. This is not a quiet religious observance. Instead, it is a highly calculated attempt to revive a dead insurgency. Because social media aggressively romanticizes these radical figures, young minds are being completely brainwashed. This glorification deeply disrespects the supreme sacrifices made by Indian security forces during the long fight against terrorism.
A Massive Failure of Leadership
Furthermore, the fact that pro-Khalistan slogans echo at the Golden Temple highlights a severe administrative failure. Successive state governments and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have failed completely. They refuse to draw a strict line between religious sentiment and political separatism. By allowing radical outfits to dominate the narrative on sensitive anniversaries, the authorities indirectly legitimize anti-India forces.
The Way Forward for India
Ultimately, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was not a religious saint fighting for the faith. He was a political extremist who weaponized religion to divide the nation. Romanticizing him today is a massive insult to the thousands of families destroyed by Khalistani violence. Moving forward, the Indian government must enforce a rigid red line. Religious shrines must never be used as platforms to promote separatism or glorify those who wage war against India’s sovereignty.
