The recent clash during the Kanwar Yatra in Prayagraj’s Sarai Khwaja highlights an uncomfortable truth. Hindu festivals are often subjected to “peaceful” frictions while victim cards are used as a disguise. Sanatanis maintain peace even while other religious processions or practices insult their faith. Such “peaceful” acts are rarely questioned with the same intensity.
Swords can be brandished openly in front of temples during Muharram without the media crying “communal tension.” This year Prayagraj witnessed “peaceful” attack on Kanwariya procession due to the DJ playing during namaaz time.Is this the “Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb” the Left-Liberal crowd proudly talks about? Or is it selective tolerance in the name of “minority”?
The Clash in Prayagraj: A Ticking Time Bomb
The Kanwar Yatra is a sacred journey where lakhs of Shiva Bhakts, carrying holy water from the Ganga, walk for miles barefoot. They chant “Har Har Mahadev” while they make their journey. However, this year in Sarai Khwaja, the spiritual atmosphere turned “peacefully” tense. The Kanwariyas, singing bhajans and dancing to devotional tracks, entered a Muslim-majority locality. The DJ sound near a mosque during Friday prayers triggered “peaceful” protests.
Within moments, the “peaceful” altercation escalated – stone pelting, beatings, and even swords reportedly flashed to intimidate devotees.
Mahendra Kumar, one of the Kanwariyas, claimed it was no spontaneous reaction but a planned attempt to disrupt their yatra. He states that they were told to stop our DJ, but when they refused, “peacefuls” began their attack. The One-Book lovers threatened the Kanwariyas with swords and even tore up the Hindu religious flags during the altercation. He filed a police complaint stating the same. Police intervened swiftly, detaining three people and filing cases against over 14 identified “peaceful” miscreants. But the larger question remains – why do such incidents keep recurring whenever Hindus celebrate with enthusiasm?
Kanwariya Devotion: A Journey of Faith, Not Noise
For Kanwariyas, the DJ is not about creating chaos. It’s about keeping spirits alive during a physically demanding pilgrimage. Imagine walking 30-40 kilometers a day, carrying heavy kanwars on your shoulders. The music, the chants, the group dancing ensures a high moral. This is a Kanwariya way of expressing bhakti and staying united on the road.
Every beat of the drum, every bhajan played through speakers is part of the spiritual rhythm of Kanwar Yatra.
This Kanwar yatra is not just about worship; it’s an economic and cultural lifeline. Highways are lined with makeshift camps offering free food and shelter. It brings together Sanatanis from all walks of life in selfless service of Bhakts and Bhagwan. Yet, while Hindus maintain discipline and celebrate within the bounds of law, they are often accused of creating “nuisance” for simply being visible and vocal in their devotion.
Double Standards: DJ is Offensive, But Swords Aren’t?
The glaring hypocrisy is hard to miss. During Muharram or Eid, sword-wielding processions pass by temples and busy markets. No one questions whether this could be “provocative.” Instead, the narrative is always about maintaining the “sanctity of traditions.” If so, why isn’t the Kanwar Yatra treated with the same respect? Why is a Shiva bhajan on a DJ speaker treated as a threat?
Why are “Peaceful” provocative slogans or songs and sharp weapons in public tolerated?
This is not an isolated event. Year after year, we hear of Kanwariyas being stopped or attacked for numerous reasons. They are maligned by LeLi Ecosystem in song and words to showcase its futility in the name of Bhakti. Hindus bear it all, yet maintain communal harmony. The so-called Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb preached by Left-Liberal elites seems to demand silence and restraint only from Hindus. Why are “peacefuls” and “rice-bags” allowed to carry on unchecked? Is religious scrutiny reserved for Sanatanis? This is not secularism. It is selective appeasement!
Equal Rights, Equal Respect: The Way Forward
India’s spiritual diversity and plurality thrives only when there is fairness in how all festivals are handled. If decibel levels are an issue, set clear guidelines and apply them equally to all communities. Weapons and threats during religious events are dangerous, administrations should impose zero-tolerance measures across the board.
Why must Hindus always bend to maintain peace, while “peacefuls” are free to assert their practices without fear of backlash?
The Kanwar Yatra is a part of Sanatan Identity. The Kanwariyas are not asking for special treatment. They just want to complete their pilgrimage in peace, singing their bhajans, rejoicing in their Bhakti, and expressing their devotion. Instead of being vilified or attacked, their journey should be celebrated as an example of unwavering faith. While FIRs and arrests were swift in the Prayagraj incident, society should call out the selective sensitivity of activists!
The Kanwar Yatra is not just a festival; it is a moving river of faith. Year aftee year, it is attacked by “peacefuls” and the ecosystem! If Hindus cannot ensure that these devotees walk without fear of violence or intimidation, then Bharat has failed the very idea of harmony. The truth of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb stands exposed during every Rath Yatra or Puja or Hindu festival. Santanis are asked to exist in silence while “peacefuls” are handed the victim card by political parties or lawyers.
The time has come for equal respect, equal rules, and zero tolerance for “peaceful” intimidation – Let Hindus stand strong to demand good behavior from “peaceful”radicals!
