Bangladesh Durga Puja Under Attack: Petrol Bombs and Knives Unleashed on Devotees

Amidst the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, another violent incident has rocked the community. During the Durga Puja celebration in the Tanti Bazar neighborhood of Dhaka, attackers hurled a petrol bomb at the mandap, injuring several people. What started as a sacred gathering turned into chaos when the bomb landed dangerously close to the deity idol.

Although the explosion caused only minor damage to the pandal, the violence didn’t stop there. When brave devotees tried to stop the assailants, they were met with brutal force. Five Hindus, including volunteers and a visitor, were stabbed in the melee. They were rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital for treatment.

The attackers, identified as Mohammed Hridoy and Mohammed Jibon, were swiftly apprehended. Law enforcement is still piecing together the events but has clarified that the petrol bomb attack and a separate robbery attempt at the mandap are not linked. The robbers, led by Akash, were attempting to steal valuables during the chaos. Authorities have recovered a gold chain from the thieves, but the Hindu community remains angered by how the attack is being downplayed.

Rising Attacks Against Hindus

This incident is just the latest in a series of growing attacks against the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh. Radical Islamists have long targeted Hindus, and these orchestrated events show no signs of stopping. The fact that a religious celebration—a time of peace and prayer—was turned into a battlefield underscores the dangers Hindus face.

The Puja Celebration Committee has demanded action, calling on the authorities to treat the attack as more than just a petty crime. They want justice, and they want answers. The police have yet to confirm if the attackers were part of a larger group, but the community remains on high alert, with devotees now taking it upon themselves to guard their sacred spaces.

Hindus Under Siege

Hindu suffering in Bangladesh has been well documented. From attacks on temples to violent outbursts during religious celebrations, the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous. Many are asking: How much longer will Hindus be made to suffer? And more importantly, what will it take for the authorities to take swift and meaningful action?

Unfortunately, the international community has largely remained silent. The persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh is often overshadowed by other events, but the fact remains that this community is being terrorized. And unless there is a change, these attacks will continue.

Is India Next?

The situation in Bangladesh serves as a grim reminder for Hindus in India. The radicals who target Hindus there could easily inspire similar violence across the border. While Indian Hindus may feel safer, the tide of intolerance and violence can spread. If Hindus do not remain vigilant, it may not be long before such attacks reach India on a similar scale.

Hindus must unite and resist the growing threat of these radicals. It’s no longer just a matter of survival in Bangladesh but a fight for the very right to practice their religion without fear.

Till when should Hindus suffer? If Hindus in India do not remain vigilant, it won’t be long before they face the same fate as Hindus in Bangladesh.
