India’s Law and Order Threatened: AIMIM Leaders Arrested for Inciting Muzaffarnagar Riot

On October 22, 2024, Muzaffarnagar police arrested 19 individuals, including All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) members, for inciting mob violence in Budhana. The arrest followed the violent events of October 19, when a large crowd took to the streets, pelting stones, vandalizing property, and calling for the beheading of a Hindu youth, Akhil Tyagi. The mob, inflamed by rumors spread through social media, sought to punish Tyagi for alleged blasphemy.

Violence Fueled by False Information by AIMIM

The situation escalated when false rumors circulated that Akhil Tyagi had been released from police custody. The truth, however, was that Tyagi was still behind bars. These rumors spread quickly through WhatsApp groups connected to AIMIM’s local units. Enraged by these false claims, a mob gathered, blocking roads and shouting violent slogans such as “Sar Tan Se Juda,” calling for Tyagi’s execution.

AIMIM leaders, including local office bearers like Rameez, Deputy District President, and Azam, City President, were directly implicated in inciting the violence. Senior Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Singh, confirmed that social media was instrumental in organizing the mob, revealing a well-coordinated attempt to fuel communal unrest.

Role of AIMIM in Spreading Hate

This isn’t an isolated incident. AIMIM has increasingly used its platform to stir up tensions, particularly against Hindus, under the guise of seeking justice. Their recent involvement in the Muzaffarnagar unrest demonstrates the extent to which certain groups are willing to manipulate emotions and spread hatred to create disorder.

AIMIM’s tactic of fueling false narratives through WhatsApp groups allowed their cadre to mobilize swiftly. The police acted decisively, arresting 19 people, but key individuals like Rameez and Tariq remain at large. Their ability to evade capture highlights the challenges law enforcement faces when tackling coordinated misinformation.

Growing Intolerance and the Threat of “Sar Tan Se Juda”

The rising number of incidents where mobs chant “Sar Tan Se Juda” underscores the growing intolerance within sections of the population. These slogans echo Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws, where mob justice often overrides the legal system, leading to lawlessness and economic decline. If such behavior goes unchecked, India risks following a similar path, where public outrage could replace legal proceedings, creating a state of chaos.

India Must Clamp Down on Mob Rule

The Muzaffarnagar riot, fueled by misinformation and religious intolerance, exposes the fragility of law and order when mob rule threatens to take over. If authorities fail to clamp down on such incidents, it will embolden extremists to commit violence under the guise of religious justice. India cannot afford to let mob justice dictate its future. India’s interest lies in preserving law and order for all.
