In a serious case from Uttar Pradesh, Baghpat police have arrested a 30-year-old woman, identified as Hina alias Mubbasreen, for allegedly coercing a police constable into religious conversion, blackmailing him through a rape case, and extorting nearly ₹17 lakh over several years.

The accused, a resident of Delhi, was apprehended following a complaint filed by constable Shrikant, currently posted in the Khekra area of Baghpat. Police have confirmed that she has been produced before a court, while efforts are ongoing to trace other accused individuals, including her associates.

Allegations of coercion and blackmail

According to the complaint, the case dates back to 2012, when Shrikant was posted in Ghaziabad and came into contact with the woman through her husband. Over time, the interaction allegedly turned into sustained pressure and coercion.

The constable has alleged that the woman began pressuring him to convert his religion and marry her. When he refused, she allegedly threatened to implicate him in a rape case. In 2021, a formal complaint was filed against him, leading to his arrest and imprisonment.

Following his release, the woman reportedly re-established contact and promised to support him legally and marry him after divorcing her husband—on the condition that he converted.

Conversion and continued extortion

According to police findings, the constable claims he eventually gave in to the pressure, underwent religious conversion, and participated in related practices. However, the promises made to him were allegedly never fulfilled.

Instead, the woman and her associates allegedly continued to extort money from him under the pretext of helping him in the case. The total amount extorted is reported to be around ₹17 lakh.

The complainant has further stated that the coercion and psychological pressure continued even after the alleged conversion, keeping him under sustained stress and fear of legal consequences.

Police action and legal provisions

Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered, and multiple charges have been invoked, including criminal intimidation, extortion, and provisions under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.

Police officials have confirmed that the case is being investigated from multiple angles, including the alleged role of the woman’s husband and other associates.

Final Thoughts

The arrest of Hina by Baghpat Circle Officer Rohan Chaurasia is a necessary step in deconstructing this network. However, the case leaves behind a chilling question: if a trained police constable can be coerced into a decade-long cycle of blackmail and forced conversion, how vulnerable is the average citizen?
