Nazia Elahi Khan became the latest victim of the “peaceful” community in Bharat. Under radical “peacefuls,” Blasphemy has become a convenient tool to silence the dissenting voice in Bharat. The “peacefuls” often weaponized this tag to suppress those who dare to question extremist actions or mindsets.
Hence, the newly minted BJP Spokesperson and a fearless activist, Nazia Elahi Khan was easy picking for this lot. The devout yet non-“peaceful” Indian Muslim woman bravely speaks out against radical Islamists and their impact on Hindus, especially in West Bengal. After the “peacefuls” successfully stifled BJP’s Nupur Sharma, they seem to have turned their sights on Nazia. She stands accused of “Blasphemy” by “peacefuls” who distort her secular critique of hardline Islamic practices. Let’s explore!

On 10th September 2024, Nazia Elahi Khan was arrested under charges of ‘blasphemy.’ The arrest came after a complaint was filed against her by lawyer Noor Mahvish. The FIR alleges that Nazia had insulted Prophet Muhammad and was inciting communal violence. However, the accusations against her seem more of a deliberate attempt to distort her words, thought, and image.
Her arrest was accompanied by chants of “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogans. And her predicament is eerily similar to what happened with BJP’s Nupur Sharma in 2022 who to date faces threats of rape and death!
Nazia Elahi Khan, like Nupur Sharma, has become a victim of selective outrage. Her critique of radical Islamist actions was conveniently twisted into blasphemy by those who want to silence her. However, in reality, her comments were not aimed at Prophet Muhammad but at the hypocrisy of radical Muslims who hide behind the blasphemy law to protect their regressive practices.

In the video interview that triggered the backlash, Nazia Elahi Khan questioned why Muslims who consider Hindus as ‘kafirs’ use Hindu names for their businesses. She sarcastically remarked that if Muslims can use Hindu names for their business, Hindus should also feel free to open shops with names like “Muhammad Pig’s Shop” or “Owaisi Underwear Store” without fearing any outrage. Please note, in the entire byte she does refer to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named! Most Muslims use Muhammed in their name. Thus, Nazia was talking about using the most common name among Muslims as the name of the shop to increase relatability.
Nazia Elahi Khan's comments are highly inflammatory and blasphemous towards Islam and Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
It is deeply concerning that Muslim organizations have not expressed outrage or taken legal action against her for these offensive remarks and spewing hatred on Islam. pic.twitter.com/qqFek7WCJm

This was not an insult to Islam but a valid point about the double standards that allow Muslims to use Hindu names while outrage follows if Hindus dare to do the same with Islamic names.
Nazia’s remarks were a commentary on the rising hardliner attitude among radical Muslims. Yet, “peaceful” radicals twisted her words to accuse her of blasphemy, much like how Nupur Sharma was hounded for exposing uncomfortable yet undeniable truths of Islam. Hence, Nazia Elahi Khan too has become a “peaceful” target for holding up a mirror to Islamic extremism.

Radical Islamists And Their Abuse Of Blasphemy Concept
The truth is, that blasphemy has become a grossly abused concept in the hands of radical Islamists in the world. Instead of fostering dialogue or mutual respect, it is used to stifle criticism and maintain dominance. Therefore, religious aggression in the name of Blasphemy ensures fear of “peacefuls” in a nation where Hindus are the majority. Nazia Elahi Khan, in her video, pointed out how “peacefuls” hide their names to continue disturbing practices like Thook Jihad, Moot Jihad, Love Jihad, etc.
Thus, “peacefuls” use fake Hindu identities or names to deliberately disrespect or harm Hindus.
Her courage to speak out against these disgusting acts led to a barrage of online abuse and death threats from “peacefuls.” The consequent arrest and “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogans against her are a form of radical suppression. The idea is to silence a Muslim woman who dares to expose her community’s distorted interpretation of Islam. Additionally, public figures like Anjum Khan, wife of cricketer Shivam Dube, even used their platforms to encourage violence against Nazia.
Therefore, it is clear that Blasphemy is less about religious sentiments. Contrarily, in the hands of “peacefuls” it helps to control narratives and silence voices like Nazia Elahi Khan who dare to unmask “peaceful” intent and actions.
The Need for Voices Like Nazia and Nupur
Nazia Elahi Khan’s case is yet another example of how blasphemy is misused to shut down criticism of “peaceful” activities. Her secular critique of how “peaceful” elements of Muslim community distort religion for political and social gain is being weaponized against her. Just as Nupur Sharma was silenced for quoting a Hadith, Nazia is now being subjected to similar persecution.
In a Hindu-majority nation, it is ironic and deeply concerning that “peacefuls” wield such influence that even the voices of brave women like Nazia and Nupur are stifled. Their struggle is not just against “peacefuls” but also against a system that allows such distortions to thrive under the guise of religious sensitivity.
Blasphemy is a concept meant to protect the sanctity of faith. However, it has instead become a tool for radicals to suppress anyone who dares to challenge them. Thus, Nazia Elahi Khan’s fight is not just her own. Instead, it is a fight for free speech, secularism, and the right to critique an ideology without inviting ‘STSJ’ chants. Consequently, this Blasphemy arrest is another reason why Bharat needs more voices like Nazia Elahi Khan who dare to question, critique, and expose ugly truths!
