Along the Kosasthalaiyar river near Thiruvalangadu in Tamil Nadu, a group of young boys stumbled upon a rare and captivating discovery. They found an ancient Lord Murugan idol buried in the sands. Archeologists state that this 12th-century relic weighs 150 kilograms and stands 3.5 feet tall.

Discovery Of the God Murugan Idol 

The idol of Murugan was discovered by boys playing on the nearby Thiruvalangadu river. With its characteristic features of four arms and two legs, the statue unmistakably represents Lord Murugan.

However, a closer examination reveals that the idol depicts Lord Murugan in his manifestation as Brahma Sastha.

The idol was adorned with traditional artifacts such as a Japamala or prayer beads and a Kamandala.

Thereby, proving that this form of Lord Murugan is Brahma Sastha. In this manifestation, he assumed the creation duties of Lord Brahma himself. This manifestation is a rarity in itself. 

After careful examination, experts tentatively date the statue back to the 12th century AD. The discovery of additional Murugan artifacts scattered across the riverbed hints at the possibility of an undiscovered archaeological site. Consequently, the atmosphere in the region is fuelled with excitement with historians and locals alike celebrating the discovery. The local community, recognizing the importance of such findings, eagerly awaits further exploration and conservation efforts.

Lord Murugan is known by many names. He is worshiped as Skanda or Kartikeya. He was the Senapati of the Gods against Tarakasur’s forces. As the God of War, Lord Skanda symbolizes courage, valor, and righteousness. For centuries Bharatvarsh paid dedicated piety at Lord Kartikeya’s feet.

His beauty and valor made him a beloved deity among devotees who wanted to be good warriors.

However, the temples of Skanda or Kartikeya are lost in the sands of time.

Reports state that numerous temples dedicated to Lord Kartikeya as Skanda or Murugan existed across the Indian subcontinent. The famous Kartikeya Temple stood in resplendent glory in Pushkar, Rajasthan, and other parts of India. Additionally, some say that a Skanda Temple was present in Himachal Pradesh also.
