The scandal involved 18 accused, including prominent names like Farooq and Nafees Chishti, Salim Chishti, and Naseem alias Tarzan. The main accused was Farooq Chisti, the President of the Ajmer Youth Congress. Nafees Chisti and Answar Chisti were the Vice-President and Joint Secretary of the Ajmer Indian National Congress. These men preyed on underage schoolgirls, luring them into their web via the help of their victims.

Nude pictures, blackmail, and non-consensual sex were part of their agenda for these young Hindu girls.

They photographed the sexual assault of these girls and used their photographs as blackmail material. The blackmailed girl was used to lure more and more innocent young girls into the sex ring. The Chistis operated with an arrogance born from their political Congressi influence and the Ajmer Chisti Dargah’s protection. Hence, they believed themselves untouchable. Therefore, the trauma faced by these girls was compounded by the deafening silence from authorities. Why? Because they were reluctant to take action against these powerful and well-connected criminals.

Ajmer is not just an isolated incident but a manifestation of a broader issue where power and impunity work against justice for women.

Ajmer Sex Scandal revealed the deep rot of the INC and its various wings. It also highlighted the objectification and the protection of perpetrators by the Muslim community. Today, the Ajmer verdict comes 32 years too late! However, no matter how delayed it was, it showcases that power is transient and criminals will eventually lose their fight against justice.

The Ajmer case gives hope to victims, that maybe not today but someday their attacker will face the whip of the law. Let the path of justice never take 32 years to walk! Moreover, let there be reforms to ensure that heinous crimes against women get a quick and sure judgment, irrespective of the political powers at play! May no woman in Bharat be forced to live in fear waiting for the law to take its course, while the predators live a careless- happy life!
