Bengaluru police made a chilling discovery yesterday. They found a body of a 29-year-old woman dismembered into 30 pieces found stuffed in a 165-Liter refrigerator at an apartment in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area. The crime reveberates with ShraddhaWalker-like familiarity. Initially, the neighbors alerted the landlord of a foul smell from the locked apartment. As the husband alleges a “peaceful” affair, the police continues its investigation.
ACP Satish Kumar confirmed the woman’s identity and reveals that the crime occured several days ealier to the discovery of the body. The victim, Mahalakshi Das, lived alone in her rented flat after separating from her husband and 4-year-old daughter. This gruesome murder may have familiar “peaceful” angle to heinous crime against women in Bharat!

29-year-old Mahalaxmi, of Nepali origins, had been living in this 1 BHK in Bengaluru for the past 5-6 months. The neighbors of Mahalaxmi found an intensely foul stench emanating from the flat. Hence, they alerted the landlord to the possibility of rotten food that was stinking up the building. Jayaram, the owner, rushed to the location to find the flat locked from outside.
The landlord called the mother and sister of the victim to come while the door is unlocked.
The unlocked door opened the gateway to the horror of a chopped body and blood stains.
Immediately, they alerted the police of the crime. Police teams, including a dog squad, fingerprint experts, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit were deployed to the crime scene. Currently, the apartment is the focus of intense forensic analysis to uncover the motive and suspect behind this horrific crime. Some reports state that the police suspect that the murder and chopping did not occur at the crime scene.

This tragedy brings back haunting memories of similar cases where women were chopped by lovers! The 2022 Shraddha Walkar murder in Delhi is strangely similar to the Bengaluru victim’s case. Then too the victim was chpopped and stored by her lover-turned-killer in a refrigerator.
In the Bengaluru case, apparently the estranged husband tells a tale of “peaceful” love gone woefully wrong.
Reportedly, Mahalaxmi was in an extra-marital relationship with “peaceful” barber Ashraf 2 years ago! Consequently, the husband filed a complaitn against the man. However, it is not a crime to be an adultress! Thus, the couple separated 9 months ago. But the separated husband also says that she was no longer seeing this man. Additionally, he claims that the victim herself had filed a report against “peaceful” Ashraf a month ago in Bengaluru. Thus, while the poilce investigates the role of the estranged husband, they are also looking for additional clues into the life of Mahalaxmi!

Seeking Justice for the Bengaluru Victim
While any crime agianst women is bad, the worst cases always seem to belong to “Mera Abdul” victims of “peaceful” predatory tactics!
Today, several factors are linked to the observable pattern of violence against women. First among them is the overworked law enforcement and the broken social system that fails to protect modern Hindu women. Additionally, the normalization of violence in entertainment industry helps in escalating crimes against women. Furthermore, the fast-vanishing familial structures and insufficient consequences for perpetrators are contributing factors to an alarming trend of violence against women. However, an overwhelming majority of such crimes emerge from “peaceful” zealots and their startegy of targetting Hindu women!
While the full story behind this latest case in Bengaluru is yet to unfold, it’s a sobering reminder that women’s safety in Bharat remains a pressing issue. The rising trend of brutal “peaceful” crimes reflects a society struggling with gender-specific violence from a section of extremists!
Bharat needs immediate judicial and social reforms to address the ideology that propagates such crimes without fear of the law.
Justice in this case shall only be served by swift appehension of the “peaceful” perpetrator/s. Otherwise, Mahalaxi as a “Mera Abdul” victim shall become a mere statistic in a chart of crimes against women. Meanwhile the nation focuses on seeking justice for the victim of this violence.
The only solution to a safe Bharat is when families, communities, and law enforcement collaborate to ensure that women are safe from such barbaric “peaceful” acts. Moreover, Bharat also needs to hold larger conversations on preventing such “peaceful” horrors in the future. Hindu women need to be shown the “peaceful” reality behind these attacks and crimes. Else Hindu families shall be left collecting pieces of their daughters, wives, or mothers from refrigerators like that of Shraddha Walker or Mahalaxmi Das!
