A Defense of Kanyadan in Sanatana Dharma

Must Read

Recently, Kanyadan came under trial in a criminal court case. Justice Subhash Vidyarthi of a Lucknow bench of HC rejected the relevance of the Kanyadan ritual in Hindu marriages. As per the Court’s understanding, only ‘Saptapadi’ is the noteworthy aspect of a Sanatani marriage! This decision has sparked many debates among Sanatana Dharma followers.

This Lucknow Bench judgment, which dismissed the importance of Kanyadan, is hurtful to Hindus. How? Firstly, it helps the WOKE to overlook the spiritual significance of an important Vivaha ritual. And secondly, it oversteps into the gray zone where the judiciary dictates terms to Hindu Dharma in Bharat. Let’s unbox the significance of Kanyadan beyond its societal implications.

In a criminal court case, the tradition of Kanyadan came under scrutiny. The groom argued the absence of Kanyadan made his marriage invalid.

The Lucknow court then pronounced that Section 7 of the Act only recognizes the “Saptapadi” ceremony as essential in Hindu marriages.

Thereby dismissing the groom’s appeal to negate the marriage and case based on the “Kanyadan” ritual. However, the court’s decision gave the WOKE brigade a weapon to undermine Hindu traditions and Sanatani values.

The Spiritual Significance of Kanyadan

Kanyadan is one of the most misunderstood rituals of Sanatana Dharma. The ceremony of Vivaha grants a special meaning to this ritual. It is not a ‘donation’ of a daughter by the father. It actually symbolizes the transfer of responsibility and care of a woman from her family to the groom.

The masculine energy takes on the companionship of the feminine energy in the journey of Dharmic life through a Sanatani marriage.

The act of Kanyadan asks the groom to guard and protect the feminine divine energy represented by the bride.

The bride and groom are treated as the masculine energy of ‘Purusha’ and the feminine energy of ‘Prakriti’ during the wedding ceremony. Thus, the Kanyadan represents how Purusha unites with Prakriti to form the cosmos.

Therefore, Kanyadan enacts and embraces the duality of the cosmos. It encourages surrender to the paramatman that resides in every Sanatani. Moreover, it helps the society to acknowledge the divine essence within women and their role in upholding Dharma.

The Woke Brigade has a few very scary notions about this Sanatani ritual. They like to associate the notion of Kanyadan with words like regressive and orthodox. However, such a mentality on Kanyadan fails to grasp its deeper meaning or spiritual significance.

The WOKEs will equate the Lucknow Bench’s order as a free reign to defy Dharma and attack its belief system.

The WOKEs think that an empowered woman should object to being ‘donated’; not realizing that it’s a transfer of responsibility and not a donation! The male-dominant world is still unsafe for women. Thus, the act asks the man to protect the woman who shall be his equal partner on the path of Dharma. The Kanyadan ritual empowers the Dharampatni to demand that her husband stands to uphold her honor. It is not an act of subjugation of women, rather a ritual that celebrates her intrinsic identity as the divine feminine energy

In conclusion, this simple riutal is one way to symbolically worship the divine Shakti or energy that shall combine with the masculine energy in the union of Vivaha! Thus, their shallow notions of empowerment fail to unbox a nuanced appreciation of Hindu traditions.

In the criminal case, the Lucknow Bench’s judgment ensures that the groom is unable to shirk responsibility for the lawsuit due to the absence of a certain ritual. However, the LeLi media will project it as a dismissal of Kanyadan in the courts of Bharat.

The judgment leaves the doors for the WOKEs to walk in and disclaim Sanatani wedding rituals. It also allows the judiciary the power to dictate which rituals should matter in Sanatana Dharma. In a singular case, the judgment is not wrong. However, its broader implication and application will be detrimental to Sanatana Dharma under the attack of WOKE ideologies.

The Modern Sanatani are invited to look a little deeper into Hindu traditions. Rather than succumbing to superficial interpretations, understanding the significance of Kanyadan will enrich the lives of Sanatani. Don’t be an Andhbhakt; read, explore, and understand Sanatana Dharma and its timeless traditions. On this path of discovery of truth, modern Sanatnis will find many revelations that are pivotal to their path to Dharma, Karma, and Moksha!
