According to reports from CNN News 18, Poonam was deeply entwined in a four-year relationship with the prime suspect, Nizam. He is a taxi driver by profession. Their story took a dark turn when Nizam, purportedly concealing his marital status, picked up Poonam from Mankhurd and drove her to Khadavli in the Kalyan area of Thane district on April 18.
Tragically, it was on April 19 that Poonam allegedly met her demise. Her life extinguished in an act of violence that shook the foundations of trust and love. Her body was abandoned at Talekhar along Chirner-Kharpada. It remained hidden until locals stumbled upon her decomposed remains on April 25.

The grim discovery prompted an intense investigation by local authorities, eventually confirming the victim’s identity as Poonam Kshirsagar. Her family, unaware of her whereabouts since April 19, had filed a missing person report, their hopes dashed by the grim reality of her fate.
Nizam, the perpetrator of this heinous crime, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement. Hailing from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Nizam’s arrest marked a crucial step towards justice. It is a case tainted by deceit and betrayal.

Reports suggest that Poonam remained oblivious to Nizam’s marital status until the harsh truth came to light, triggering a confrontation that escalated into tragedy. Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mangal Prabhat Lodha, after meeting with the victim’s family, shed light on the chilling details of the incident.
Lodha revealed that Nizam purportedly transported Poonam to Kalyan, where he allegedly committed the ghastly act before callously disposing of her remains in a remote location. His words echoed the sentiments of a community reeling from the shock of such a callous crime.
Lodha emphasized the need to address issues concerning illegal immigrants from Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the city. His pledge to ensure justice for Poonam carried a weighty message, warning against the repercussions of delayed action.
