Abaan Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, died in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Wednesday while travelling to meet his jailed brother. His friend, identified as Sonu, also lost his life in the crash.
According to police, the speeding car crashed into a road divider, and the impact was so severe that both occupants died on the spot. Preliminary investigations indicate that overspeeding may have caused the accident, although police have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact circumstances.
Umesh Pal Murder
Abaan Ahmed first came under the police scanner following the 2023 murder of lawyer Umesh Pal, the key witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case.
The Uttar Pradesh Police alleged in its chargesheet that Abaan, along with his elder brother Ahzam, attended conspiracy meetings and was involved in reconnaissance before the murder. These allegations remain part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
In 2025, Abaan was again booked after a social media reel allegedly glorifying gangster culture and intimidation went viral.
End of a Criminal Dynasty
Abaan was the youngest son of Atiq Ahmed, whose criminal empire once dominated eastern Uttar Pradesh. Over the past few years, the family has steadily disintegrated following police action and legal proceedings.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in 2023 while in police custody, his son Asad Ahmed was killed in an STF encounter, two other sons remain in jail, and his wife Shaista Parveen continues to be absconding in the Umesh Pal murder conspiracy case.
With Abaan’s death, another chapter has closed in the decline of one of Uttar Pradesh’s most notorious criminal families.
