The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections have completely rewritten the state’s political history. After 15 years of absolute power, Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered a crushing defeat. However, this massive loss was not just about regular political anti-incumbency or failing infrastructure. Instead, the voters delivered a brutal punishment for a deeply entrenched culture of violence. Ultimately, the downfall of the TMC was driven entirely by their undeniable anti-Hindu agenda, extreme political brutality, and an arrogant monarchial mindset that alienated the majority.

The Murshidabad Violence and Foreign Intervention
To understand this massive Hindu consolidation, you must look at the terrifying events of April 2025 in Murshidabad. During local Waqf related protests, massive mobs launched targeted, violent attacks specifically against the local Hindu community. Radical elements deliberately marked Hindu homes and set shops on fire. Furthermore, intelligence reports clearly indicated dangerous cross-border intervention from Bangladeshi extremists. Because the state government wanted to protect its minority vote bank, police simply stood by. Consequently, hundreds of terrified Hindu families were forced to abandon their homes and cross the river to Malda just to survive.
The Brutality of Past Elections
Beyond organized riots, the ruling party captured past elections through pure bloodshed and terror. The TMC ground cadres operated with absolute impunity, permanently scarring the public memory. For instance, the horrifying death of 85-year-old Shova Majumdar shocked the nation. Goons brutally beat the elderly mother simply because her son supported the opposition. Similarly, Avijit Sarkar, a young man from Kolkata, was violently murdered by a mob right after posting a desperate Facebook Live video begging for his life. Therefore, the voters realized that the TMC actively eliminated Hindu opposition voices without any fear of the law.
The Horrors of Sandeshkhali and RG Kar
The complete collapse of law and order also destroyed any illusion of women’s safety in the state. In Sandeshkhali, local TMC strongmen like Sheikh Shahjahan systematically grabbed land and sexually exploited local women for years. Shockingly, the state police initially protected the perpetrators instead of the victims. Just months later, the horrific rape and murder of a young doctor inside Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College exposed a massive institutional cover-up. Because the government prioritized protecting its own over delivering justice, the public anger reached an absolute boiling point.
A Monarchial Mindset and Hate Speech
Finally, the sheer arrogance of the top leadership drove the final nail into the coffin. Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, ran the state like a personal kingdom rather than a democracy. They constantly issued hate speech against the Union of India and openly mocked Hindu sentiments. By constantly defying constitutional bodies and protecting corrupt syndicates, they displayed a dangerous monarchial mindset. At the end of the day, you simply cannot terrorize the majority community for over a decade and expect to rule forever. The people of West Bengal finally decided that the politics of genocide and appeasement must end, leading to the ultimate collapse of the TMC empire.
