Today Bharat welcomes Bhagwan Ram in Ayodhya after a 500-year wait! The world watches Bharat, awestruck, as more than a billion Sanatanis join hands and bow to Bhagwan Ram! Casting aside the shadows of caste, creed, language, or region; the Sanatani world unites under a single power of Bhagwan Vishnu’s Ram Avatar – Jai Shree Ram!!!
As hearts rejoice and distances fall apart, let’s not restrict Ram Naam to mere chants in temples! Here are a few things that made Raja Ram unique and the personification of Dharma on Prithvilok. Let’s talk about how we can embrace these timeless virtues of Maryada Purushottam, Lord Rama, into our daily lives.
Why Was Shri Ram Maryada Purushottam?
As the seventh avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu, the birth of Shri Ram was to help Sanatanis walk the path of Dharma. Shri Ram, as a prince, experiences a life filled with trials and tribulations.
However, even in the face of injustice, cruelty, or crime Shri Ram’s actions showcase his unwavering devotion to Sanatana Dharma. Never in word or deed he sway from the path of righteousness.Â
Here are a few things that made Shri Ram Maryada Purushotam and have Sanatanis signing Jai Shri Ram:
- Unilaterally Devoted to Dharma: Shri Ram shows at every step that Dharma should guide a man’s action. As a young prince, he accompanied Maharishi Vashishtha to slay Asuras which hindered Dharmoc Puja and also the lives of the common man.Â
- Karmanishta and Dharmanishta Son: Despite fulfilling the Swayamvar’s test, Prince Ram accepted Princess Sita only after attaining his Guru’s and his parent’s approval. He humbly bowed at his stepmother’s feet while leaving Ayodhya for a 14-year vanvaas to ensure that his father’s promise stands fulfilled!Â
- Devoted Husband: Bhagwan Ram chose to stay loyal to his one and only wife throughout his life. Many try to condemn him for forsaking Mata Sita at the behest of nay-sayers. But few will remember that as a king he chose to live his life alone without his beloved. Living as an ascetic, he chased after King Ravan across Bharatvarsh to rescue Ma Sita. He set Lanka on fire and forced an Adharmic to Dharmic regime change in an island nation just to get his wife back!!!
- Rajashri Ruler: Bhagwan Ram ensured that his rule was just for all living beings. Thus, even today Bharat awaits to be under Ramrajya, a place where Dharma prospers and Adharma is vanquished. Fairness and justice above personal interests were his ideals.Â
- A Courageous Warrior: Bhagwan Ram waged battles and wars without the might of Ayodhya behind him. His every breath was devoted to fighting Adharma, Asura, and Raksha. He placed his own life on balance to fight against Vidharmic rulers to help Dharma regain a foothold in Prithvilok.Â
- Humility Thy Name is Ram: He never asked for anything in return. He did not claim divinity. To be worshipped was never his goal. He did not preach to the unworthy. However, even to date, Bharat resounds with tales of his humanity and lack of ego.  Â
These are just a few ways that Bhagwan Ram’s lives and legends earn the epithet of ‘Maryada Purushottam’. May all Sanatanis be blessed to be part of his story today!
Does Chanting Jai Shri Ram Help Assimilate Bhagwan Ram In Modern Lives?
Chanting Jai Shri Ram brings Sanatanis closer to the Dharma. It reminds everyone of the virtues that embody the ‘Ram Naam’. It marks our struggles for years to survive under constant Islamic invasions and humiliating enslavement! However, mere chanting can never be enough to bring Dharma back into Sanatana Bharat. Prayer and Puja are at the heart of Sanatana Dharma. But, assimilating Shri Ram’s way of life is just as important to restore Dharma. Live the way Shri Ram lived to be part of the chant Jai Shri Ram!!!
Here are a few humble suggestion to walk the path of Dharma:
- Be a good child to your parents. Earn their love through small acts of unasked kindness. Always be aware that you are an assimilation of your ancestors. Honor the parents who gave you the chance to be a part of this world.
- Be truthful to your faith. Upasana has many forms, find the way that suits your daily life. Doing your job well, your studies well, etc. is also a form of Dharma. Ensure that the guiderails of Dharma define you every word or act!Â
- Be faithful to your loved one. In the musical chairs of partners that the modern youth plays, find the one that shall walk the path of righteousness with you. Thereafter, stay committed to each other in the face of all adversities.Â
- Be fair and just in all actions. Every act or word impacts the balance of Dharma in Kalyug. Ensure that never an unjust vakya or a dushkarma kriya happens in your name.
May these small measures enrich every Sanatani’s life with good karma. With the help of small steps every day, may Dharma be restored in Bharat. Thus, let these suggestions help assimilate the virtues of Shri Ram along with Ram Naam in the lives of Modern Sanatanis! Don’t bind ‘Ram’ in temples, let his name live in your hearts and daily lives! Live your life in the name of Dharma and Ram Naam without fear! Jai Shri Ram!!!
