Punjab: How the ED Raid Exposed AAP’s ‘Kattar Imandari’

Must Read

In a scene straight out of a Bollywood crime thriller, the Aam Aadmi Party’s carefully cultivated image of absolute honesty was completely shattered on May 7, 2026. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched massive, coordinated raids across Punjab targeting a major real estate and land fraud syndicate. However, the most shocking moment occurred in Mohali’s upscale Kharar area. When the ED teams reached Flat No. 906 at Western Towers, the terrified occupants desperately hurled two bags filled with cash directly out of the 9th-floor window. Bundles of ₹500 notes were seen flying through the air and scattering across the society grounds. The ED immediately secured the area and seized approximately ₹21 lakh from the thrown bags, exposing a desperate attempt to destroy hard evidence.

The Deep Links to the Chief Minister’s Office

This is not just a random corporate raid; the political connections are incredibly damning. The raided flat belongs to Nitin Gohal, an IT professional who operates as a highly connected middleman. Crucially, investigators and multiple political sources confirm that Gohal is a close associate of Rajbir Singh Ghumman, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. According to the ED, Gohal actively helped corrupt builders default on their Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) fees while using his connections to arrange absolute political protection for them.

The Collapse of “Kattar Imandari”

For years, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann have lectured the entire nation about their “Kattar Imandari” (extreme honesty) and completely clean politics. Yet, the reality on the ground tells a completely different story. The ED raid on CM Mann’s aide perfectly symbolizes the deep rot of corruption that has heavily infected the AAP’s governance model. From the massive Delhi excise policy scam to the deeply entrenched sand and land mafias in Punjab, the party that promised to permanently eradicate corruption is constantly being caught in massive hawala networks. When a political party’s inner circle responds to law enforcement by raining cash from high-rise balconies, their moral high ground vanishes completely.

A Desperate Defense from the Leadership

Following the massive public outrage, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann frantically attempted to distance himself from the scandal. During a press conference, he completely denied any involvement, claiming the raids were linked to “old private companies” and had absolutely nothing to do with his government. However, the public is not blind. The sheer proximity of the raided middleman to the Chief Minister’s own OSD proves that massive land scams cannot operate without high-level political cover. Defending these actions while the opposition releases videos of cash flying in the air only makes the state leadership look weaker and more complicit.

The Real Cost to Punjab

Ultimately, this embarrassing scandal is a massive betrayal of the people of Punjab. In 2022, the voters overwhelmingly voted for AAP because they desperately wanted a complete change from the old politics of favoritism and corruption. Instead, they are witnessing the exact same network of wealthy builders, corrupt middlemen, and political elites looting the state’s resources. The era of lofty speeches and hollow promises is completely over. Until the AAP leadership purges the corrupt middlemen operating from within the Chief Minister’s own circle, their claims of being a “pro-people” government will remain an absolute joke.
