The Curious Case of Kejriwal’s Phone

Must Read

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam. The court has remanded him to custody, and he will remain in custody until March 28th. According to NDTV report, ED sources revealed that the phone used by Kejriwal in the excise policy scam has gone missing.

During interrogation, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that he doesn’t remember where the phone is.

According to news reports, the missing phone might contain crucial information related to the excise policy scam. However, this isn’t the first electronic gadget that’s gone missing but it is 171st of missing gadgets. According to ED, 170 mobile phones are so far untraceable.

Ultimately, the ED used the data acquired from 17 phones to put the case together. The agency has also named Manish Sisodia in the charge sheet as an accused on the basis of the data acquired from the 17 phones.

The ED asserts that most of the accused have changed their mobile phones and laptops between May and August 2022. The agency believes they might have destroyed the phones to remove evidences. It has also stated in its charge sheet that the majority of the data acquired comes from the accused’s laptops and mobile phones.

The agency intends to recover data from Kejriwal’s phone which he allegedly used to communicate with Sameer Mahendru. According to the agency, Kejriwal spoke with Sameer Mahendru over the phone and had informed him that Vijay Nair was “his boy” and that he can “Trust Him.”

The ED, has charged “Vijay Nair”, AAP media in charge of working as a go-between for the “South Group.”  This group allegedly gave Rs 100 crore in kickbacks to the Kejriwal government to gain access into Delhi’s liquor retail market.

AAP on the other hand has refuted the agency’s assertions. It in fact retaliated and alleged that the BJP office is conducting the probe.  According to NDTV, they stated that the ED is a “political partner of the BJP.”

The AAP leaders will gherao the PM Modi’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg today to register its protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Devesh Kumar, “No permission has been granted” for the protest.
