Kuki terrorists provoke Meiteis with genocide calls, while the media and liberals continue to project them as victims!
A video showing a handful of Kuki terrorists ranting against the Meitei community has went viral on social media. The terrorists could be seen ranting against Meiteis and rousing the croud with prejudiced statements.
“Who is fighting against the Meitei? We (Kuki-Zo) are the frontline”, exclaimed the terrorist. He further added, “If we want land from the Meiteis, we must attack them and forcefully occupy their areas. We will not give up easily until and unless we plunder the land from Meitei.”
“Can we be able to snatch out (Meitei land)?” asked the terrorist as the bigoted croud cheered “we can!” The speech was concluded with a Nazi style genocide call against the Meitei people, asking the croud to “kill a Meitei immediately at first sight”.

Lets explore the reasons behind Kuki aggression and its impact on regional stability.
Christianisation of Kukis: The Root of the Problem
The Christian missionaries, who followed the Union Jack and arrived in Manipur in 1894, gradually began to convert the animistic tribes into Christianity. This was achieved through a variety of allurements such as provision of basic medical aid and education.
In the 1901 Census there were only 8 per cent Christians as against 60 per cent Hindus. But by 1991 the number of Christians in Manipur had increased to 34.11 per cent.
Indeed, if the overall state population is taken into account the Christian population of the state might have exceeded 45 per cent in 2021. As a result, the increasing Christianisation of the tribes widened the socio-cultural gap between the Hindu Meiteis of the Valley and the Christian tribes of the Hills. This, over time, became a permanent source of socio-political rivalry.
Kuki land: A Ridiculous Joke
- The creation of a Christian majority state- Kukiland is not in the national interest as it violates the original rationale for creation of states in India. Ethnicity and religion can never be the motivations for creating a different administrative unit. It could further the secessionist tendencies of the local Kuki population.
- A hypothetical Kukiland as a border state could catalyze illegal immigration from other Christian tribes of Myanmar and Rohingyas from Bangladesh.
- A Kuki dominated state, completely surrounding the Imphal valley will cause logistical hindrance to the Meitei community. Hence, the demand for a Kukiland is irrational and unjustified.
Scheduled Tribe Status: A Meitei Birthright!
The Meitei community led by the Scheduled Tribes Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM), has been demanding ST status since 2012. The STDCM demands provision of constitutional safeguards to preserve their culture, language, and identity.
The Meiteis argue that they were recognised as a tribe before the merger of Manipur with India. This identity was lost after the merger.
As a result of being left out of the ST list, the Meitei community feels marginalized and victimized without any constitutional protections.
The STDCM has stated that the Meiteis have been gradually marginalized in their ancestral land. Their population, which was 59% of the total population of Manipur in 1951, has now been reduced to 44% as per 2011 Census data. Granting ST status would help preserve their ancestral land, tradition, culture, and language, and safeguard them against outsiders.
