The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a fresh anti-encroachment drive around Jama Masjid, acting on directions from the Delhi High Court to identify and remove illegal constructions occupying public spaces near the historic monument.
MCD teams began the operation on August 31, clearing unauthorised structures from public areas and parks in the vicinity. Officials said at least three parks are being cleared as part of the exercise, with police deployed to maintain law and order during the operation.

Court Order Leads To Action
The Delhi High Court had directed the MCD to conduct a survey of illegal constructions and encroachments around Jama Masjid and take appropriate action based on its findings.
The current operation follows that direction, with civic officials focusing on public land and spaces that have been occupied by unauthorised structures.
This is important because public parks and open spaces are meant for the public. Their occupation by illegal structures takes away areas that should remain accessible to residents, visitors and worshippers.
Public Land Being Reclaimed
