The professional spectacle merchants of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have finally received a swift legal reality check. Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, two of the loud faces driving the outfit, have been dispatched to Tihar Jail on five day judicial custody. Their juvenile attempt to play smart with the Delhi Police, breach legally binding undertakings, and manufacture street drama for social media algorithms collapsed within forty eight hours.
The comedy of errors began on 10 October 2026. Delhi Police took preventive custody of CJP leaders ahead of an announced disruption targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The very next day, on 11 October, both leaders walked out of detention after signing a formal one year peace bond of 50,000 rupees each. The legal condition was simple: maintain peace, exhibit good behavior, and do not disturb public order for twelve months.
For professional drama actors, however, twenty four hours without a video camera feels like an existential crisis.
Sneaking Through Backdoors for Optics
Barely two days after signing the bond, on 13 October, Das and Ranka attempted a ridiculous stunt. Jantar Mantar had already been officially denotified by Delhi Police as an authorized protest venue. Knowing full well that lawful entry was impossible, the duo alongside Ajinkya Shinde resorted to pure trespassing. They sneaked through private commercial premises to bypass police barricades, rushed into the restricted zone, unfurled a flag, and began screaming slogans demanding the CEC resign.
The entire episode was designed solely for cameras, reels, and digital martyr narratives. They assumed signing a police bond was just paperwork they could casually throw into the trash.
Delhi Police responded swiftly. Instead of indulging their theatrics, the authorities booked them under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant laws for:
-
Criminal trespassing into private and restricted property
-
Defying Section 163 prohibitory orders under the BNSS
-
Obstructing police personnel from discharging their public duty
-
Flagrant breach of the peace bond executed just days prior
Reality Hits Inside Tihar
On 14 October, the trio stood before the Special Executive Magistrate. While Ajinkya Shinde furnished a personal bond with strict conditions, the court showed zero patience for repeat offenders Das and Ranka. Police established that both individuals had deliberately violated their signed peace undertakings almost immediately after execution.
The magistrate remanded Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody. Das was sent to Jail No 2, while Ranka was deposited in Jail No 4 at Tihar.
The entire incident exposes the chronic delusion driving these self styled street revolutionaries. They genuinely believe that shouting slogans and claiming democratic dissent grants them complete immunity from criminal law. They signed a legal bond, treated it like scrap paper, crept through private buildings to stage a photo opportunity, and are now cooling off inside Tihar. Street veto has met judicial procedure, and the theatrics have abruptly halted.
