Eid Turns Fatal in Uttar Pradesh
On Saturday morning, Ish Mohammad attended Eid-ul-Azha namaz at the local mosque. After returning home around 10 AM, he quietly went to a nearby hut used to keep goats. His family, unaware of what was coming, continued their Eid celebrations.
About an hour later, his wife, Hajra Khatoon, heard him groaning. She rushed to the hut and found him lying in a pool of blood, his throat slit. A knife was found next to him. Shocked, she called for help.
The Suicide Note
According to local reports, Ish Mohammad left behind a handwritten note. In it, he stated that a goat is a living being and that real sacrifice requires more. He declared that he was offering himself as a sacrifice in the name of Allah’s messenger. “No one has killed me,” the note affirmed. He also requested to be buried peacefully and urged others not to fear anyone.
The police, informed by neighbours, transported him to the local hospital. He was referred to Gorakhpur Medical College due to his critical condition. However, he died during treatment.
Investigation Underway
Additional Superintendent of Police (North), Arvind Kumar Verma, confirmed preliminary evidence suggesting self-infliction. However, he also said that the case is being probed from all possible angles. Some reports mention that the police have not yet officially confirmed the presence of the suicide note.
Ish Mohammad had three sons—two lived with him in the village while the youngest works in Mumbai. As per the family, he had also recently visited the dargah of Sultan Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Shah before the incident.
