Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of jailed Kashmiri separatist and chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Yasin Malik wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi. Mullick, was former assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister on human rights and women empowerment. In her letter she drew the attention of Mr. Gandhi towards, Malik’s “three-decades-old sedition case in which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has demanded death sentence for him.”
Malik Sentenced To Life Imprisonment
In the 2017 terror funding case, the NIA had charged a number of people, including Yasin Malik. The trial court in 2022 had sentenced him to life imprisonment after he had pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Yasin’s Hunger Strike
In her letter Mullick stated, “Since November 2, Malik has gone on an indefinite hunger strike to protest the inhumane treatment in jail. This hunger strike will further adversely affect his wellbeing and put at risk the life of a man, who after renouncing armed struggle, chose to believe in the concept of non-violence.”
Quoting several authors to describe Yasin Malik’s change of heart, she wrote, “Rahul Ji, I recall these anecdotes not to glorify Malik but to recall them to apprise you that he stood by his end of the bargain.” Furthermore, she alleged that the BJP administration has been victimising Malik “in all unimaginable ways” since 2019. “He is being tried for waging a war against India in a 35-year-old case and now capital sentence is being demanded for him in concocted cases filed against him by NIA,” she wrote.
Pleads To Rahul Gandhi
Mushaal Mullick in her letter urged Rahul Gandhi to use his political influence and initiate discussion on Yasin Malik’s case. “I request you (Rahul) to bring to use your high moral and political influence in the Parliament and to initiate a debate in the case of Yasin Malik, who could become an instrument for bringing organic and not cosmetic peace back to the Jammu & Kashmir — paradise on earth,” she pleaded.

Meanwhile BJP National Spokesperson, Amit Malviya slammed the congress for standing with the terrorists. He tweeted, “Not surprising that Pakistan backed terrorist Yasin Malik’s wife writes to Rahul Gandhi, requesting him to initiate a debate in Parliament for her husband. Malik, among his several other crimes, is guilty of gunning down serving Air Force officers in Kashmir, which amounts to waging war against the State. Dr Manmohan Singh had ironically appointed him as his advisor and Delhi media, back then, feted him as ‘Youth Icon’…”
