Recently, tension erupted in Garhwa district of Jharkhand after anti-social elements of one community stopped the immersion of Durga idol. Now another similar news has come to light from the same district. The second incident happened in the Garhwa district’s Madgadi village. Reportedly, where violence erupted after the people of Hindu community refused to change the idol immersion route which passes through a Muslim neighbourhood.
As per reports, there was already a dispute going on over the scheduled route of Durga idol immersion for the last 3-4 days. The route traditionally passes through a Muslim community dominated area. The locals of that area had lodged complaint against the procession which was to pass through that area.
Following which, the administration had changed the route of the idol immersion so that it doesn’t pass through that area. However, the Hindus didn’t agree to it and argued that they have permission for the existing old route. On Sunday, they declared that they’ll use the old route. As a result of which a dispute emerged between the Hindu community and the state police. The Jharkhand government deployed heavy police to force the devotees to pass through the new route. The Hindus refused to comply with the dictate and started protesting.
Police Lathi Charged…
The police resorted to Lathi charge on the protestors in order to disperse the devotees. This further aggravated the situation and the villagers counter attacked them. They vandalised police cars and chased the officers away for almost a km. Additionally, the locals burned anti-riot kits that the police had brought. The incident left multiple police officers hurt, including SP Rahul Dev Baraik, who suffered significant injuries.

Additional police force arrived after learning about the event, and the situation was brought under control. High ranking police and government personnel have been stationed in the village area. According to Garhwa SP, Deepak Kumar Pandey, peace has returned and the situation is currently under control. He also announced that the puja committee members have been invited for talks.
However, all these events have left people questioning the law and order situation under Hemant Soren‘s government.
