There is no denying the fact, that since 2009, under Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s economy grew at 6% annually. She was able to pull out millions out of poverty and the garment industry saw tremendous growth under her leadership. And Even though some might call her a temperamental democrat but atleast she wasn’t a religious fanatic. She did keep the anti national elements and fanatics in check. Though the religious minorities were always in danger, but at least they had a sympathetic ear in the administration. Geopolitically, India was able to breathe easier on its eastern border.

What Has Happened So Far…

Recently, Sheikh Hasina landed at the Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. Reportedly, the Indian government has granted her an interim stay following the collapse of her government in Bangladesh. During this period, India will be offering her logistical support as she pursues asylum in the UK, Daily Sun reported.

Within few hours of Sheikh Hasina’s landing, the National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval met her. The Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar has not only briefed PM Modi but also the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on the current state of affairs in Bangladesh.

Today morning, an all party meeting was held in the parliament on the same issue. Here also, the EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar briefed the members of different political parties. Meanwhile, security has been increased and all of the flights operated by carriers like IndiGo and Air India to and from Dhaka were canceled.
