Charuni Claims Farmers Created ‘Mahaul’ For Congress In Haryana, BJP Reacts!

Must Read

BKU (Bhartiya Kisan Union) president, Gurnam Singh Charuni, said that the farmers created a ‘favourable atmosphere’ for the Congress in Haryana. However, the party under the leadership of Bhupinder Hooda failed to capitalise it.

Charuni, the founder of the Sanyukt Sangharsh Party, held senior congress leader Bhupinder Hooda responsible for Congress’s electoral defeat in Haryana. While speaking to IANS he said, “The atmosphere that was created in favour of Congress in Haryana was due to us, the farmers, but the party couldn’t make the best out of it.”

Continuing further he added, “He is the biggest reason for Congress’s defeat because he did not compromise with anyone, and the party placed all the responsibility on him.” He also warned the party that they should not appoint Hooda as the leader of the opposition in Haryana. Charuni said, “Even now, I want to convey through you to the Congress high command that they should not make Bhupinder Hooda the leader of the opposition.” He added that the “Farmer unions played the role of the opposition, not Bhupinder Singh Hooda.”

Shehzad Poonawalla Slams Congress,

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that Charuni’s remarks demonstrates how the Congress “created” the farmers’ movement.  BJP National Spokesperson Mr. Shehzad Poonawalla said, “So none of these “andolans” were genuine or apolitical – they were not a sanyog but a prayog done by congress.” He further added, “Rahul Gandhi’s Congress’ state governments are the most anti-farmer governments. In Karnataka, Raju Kage, their MLA, has said they are anti-farmer and a farmer also committed suicide, but no words.”

Earlier, Shamsher Singh Gogi, a former Congress MLA had criticised the “Hooda Congress.” He claimed that it caused a communication rift inside the party that eventually resulted in the party losing the Assembly elections. While speaking to ANI he said, “State leadership was not happy with Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assandh. (Bhupinder Singh) Hooda didn’t even take my name on stage. Congress would not have lost, ‘Hooda Congress’ was contesting the election and they lost, they didn’t take anyone into confidence. They created a communication gap inside the party. Had the election been contested properly, people wanted Congress govt this time. The responsibility (of the defeat) lies with ‘Bapu-beta’.”
