An old video of Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is going viral once more. In this clip, Haasan once more reveals his deep hatred for the religion he was born into. Thus, it seems he aims to vilify Hinduism at any cost. In the recently viral clip, he shocked audiences by suggesting “don’t blame rapists for rape” – he asked them to blame the Hindu epics that guide such mindsets.
However, many wonder if Kamal has ever read any of these epics to gain a deeper understanding of their story.
Later, Kamal Haasan faced legal troubles also for claiming that Hindu epics degrade women. However, he was let off for sharing his personal derogratory view of Hindu Dharma. But, in reality, every Sanatani epic shows that disrespect of women leads to the downfall of the Kul.
According to Kamal, the Mahabharata teaches that women can be gambled away. And his political ambitions allow him to spout this distortion that the LeLi ecosystem wants naive Hindus to believe. While the clip and case is old, it shows how this Rajya Sabha MP and Public Figure regularly insults the civilizational ethos of Bharat while tainting Sanatan Dharma with his hatred!
The Mahabharata: Justice, Not Justification
Firstly, let’s be clear – the Mahabharata never condones sexual violence or the degradation of women. The attempted disrobing of Draupadi is not celebrated; it is condemned in the strongest terms. It is the very act that seals the fate of the Kauravas. Lord Krishna himself assures Draupadi of divine justice.
The Hindu epic – mahabharat – portrays Draupadi’s dignity and resilience as central to the downfall of Adharma.

Secondly, unlike Abrahamic texts, Hindu epics never instruct followers to enslave women. Hindu scripture states clearly that a place where Nari Samman is absent shall never flourish. Be it God or Human – rape is never portrayed as permissible. Lastly, the female form and power are worshipped, and Hindus do not normalize the suffering of women. Instead, Sanatana Dharma celebrates the feminine divine: from Draupadi’s fiery courage to Maa Durga’s fierce protection of dharma.
Abrahamic Texts: The Silence Kamal Haasan Won’t Break
If Kamal Haasan has the courage he pretends to, let him apply his critique to the Bible and Qur’an. Both contain explicit accounts where women are taken, violated, or treated as property.
-
Bible:
- 2 Samuel 13: Tamar was raped by her brother Amnon
- Genesis 34: Dinah is seized and violated by Shechem.
- Judges 19: A Levite’s concubine is handed over, gang-raped all night, and dies.
- Deuteronomy 21: Captive women can be taken as wives after war, consent irrelevant.
-
Qur’an and Hadiths:
- Quran 4:24, 23:6, 70:30: Captive women from war are permissible for sexual use. Women captives are “possessions of the right hand” and can be sexually abused by their “master”!
- Sahih Muslim 3432, Bukhari 4138: Companions openly practiced intercourse with war captives, even if their husbands were alive. Her marriage is abrogated once she becomes an Islamic slave!
- Case of Safiyyah bint Huyayy: Taken as a “wife” by Prophet Muhammad immediately after her husband was killed at Khaybar.
These texts are not allegories; they are prescriptions followed in practice. Yet Kamal Haasan won’t utter a word against them. Why? Because it is easy and safe to target Hinduism, while criticism of Islam or Christianity invites backlash. If Haasan wants his head on his shoulders and his alliance with DMK to continue – so he abuses Hindu Dharma and its epics.
Christian Congo – The Real Rape Capitals

If Kamal Haasan is serious about rape, he should look at global data. The Democratic Republic of Congo is often called the rape capital of the world. Congo is overwhelmingly Christian, with Islam the second-largest faith. India, despite its population size, does not feature anywhere near the top in global rape statistics.

Yet, Hindu religion is constantly demonized, while the role of rigid patriarchal interpretations in Abrahamic faiths is conveniently ignored.
Studies consistently show that fundamentalist religious orientations with rigid, patriarchal, and extrinsic interpretations correlate with “rape myth acceptance”. Conversely, more inclusive and intrinsic religiosity often acts as a protective factor. Hindu Dharma, with its worship of goddesses and celebration of Shakti, belongs firmly in the latter category.
Kamal Haasan: A Fake Rationalist?
Born into a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family, Kamal Haasan should have known better. Instead, he parrots colonial tropes and LeLi distortion of his own heritage while masquerading as a “rationalist.” Kamal Haasan’s selective outrage raises questions about whether he has secretly abandoned his roots. Consequently, many believe Kamal Haasan changed his religion covertly. Thus, maybe as a convert, his only purpose is to malign Hinduism while shielding other religions from scrutiny? Or is his loyalty to DMK makes him spout nonsense? However, his hypocrisy or Hindu hatred is not new.
Hinduism has long been the soft target for so-called intellectuals who lack the honesty or the courage to confront other religions that explicitly condone sexual violence.
By twisting the Mahabharata and insulting the feminine divine, Kamal Haasan has only exposed his ignorance and bias. Hinduism is the one civilization that worships women as goddesses, celebrates them as warriors, and enshrines them as protectors of Dharma. However, the same cannot be said of other religions, which Kamal Haasan dares not critique.
The truth is simple: Kamal Haasan’s rant says less about Hinduism and more about his own cowardice & ignorance.
