The Rani Laxmibai Statue Controversy: Lies and Entitlement Clash with History
Recently, hundreds of “Peacefuls” protesters gathered in a Delhi park to oppose the installation of a statue of Rani Laxmibai. They falsely claimed that the land belonged to the Waqf Board. This baseless allegation represents yet another attempt to rewrite India’s cultural and historical narrative.
Absurd Arguments and Growing Entitlement by PeacefulsÂ
The absurdity of this protest goes beyond land ownership disputes. Protesters argued that the statue should be removed because they perform Namaz nearby, especially during Eid when the park serves as a prayer gathering spot. This demand reveals a startling level of entitlement.

Rani Laxmibai wasn't a Sanghi, right? If allowed they'll happily install Afzal Guru's statue there but…pic.twitter.com/4CEYx3S5Ey

Moreover, this call to remove the statue based on religious practices signals a troubling trend. People increasingly view public spaces as extensions of personal religious zones. If society accepts such logic, we can expect more outrageous demands in the future. For instance, removing statues or temples located near mosques may become the next step. Ultimately, this could lead to calls for the removal of temples near Muslim residences because they pray at home.
This entitlement sets a dangerous precedent. Today, it’s a statue; tomorrow, it could be entire temples. The ultimate goal appears to be demanding an India free of Hindu statues and temples. Such actions do not promote peaceful coexistence. Instead, they aim to assert dominance and oppress a community. If this trend continues, Hindu cultural symbols could vanish from public spaces altogether.
Lies in Court and Threats to Law and Order by Peacefuls
The opposition to Rani Laxmibai’s statue involved blatant lies in Court. Protesters falsely claimed in court that the land belonged to the Waqf Board, providing no evidence to support their assertions. Furthermore, they resorted to their usual tactic of threatening law and order disruptions. They implied that if the statue was installed, public peace would be at risk, and vandalism could follow.
This tactic of using threats to sway court decisions has become far too common. In almost every case involving “peacefuls”, we hear the same refrain: “If the court doesn’t rule in our favor, there will be a law and order problem.” This coercive strategy undermines the rule of law and makes a mockery of justice. If courts give in to such threats, justice itself will remain hostage to fear.
Thankfully, in this instance, the judge refused to yield. Despite the threats of unrest, the court stood firm, setting an important precedent that justice cannot be bought or bullied.
A Broader Agenda: Cultural Erasure? by PeacefulsÂ
The demand to remove Rani Laxmibai’s statue based on its proximity to Namaz spots goes beyond local protest. It indicates a broader agenda to erode India’s cultural heritage. Rani Laxmibai is not just a symbol of Hindu valor; she is a national hero who fought for India’s independence. Opposing her statue lacks any logical basis unless the goal involves erasing symbols of Hindu heritage.
Additionally, this movement does not merely target “Sanghi” figures. Instead, it aims to reshape India’s public spaces to fit a narrow religious view.
This sense of entitlement, as if the country owes them something, ultimately serves to oppress the majority. It makes Hindus feel like outsiders in their own land.
A Warning for India
This incident serves as a warning for India. If the justice system continues to yield to threats and allows historical symbols like Rani Laxmibai to be targeted for removal, we will witness a much larger cultural erosion. Today it’s a statue; tomorrow, it could be entire temples, festivals, or even textbooks facing erasure.
India must remain vigilant in preserving its history and heritage. Allowing threats of unrest to dictate decisions risks tearing apart the cultural fabric of the nation. India is more than just land; it is a rich cultural tapestry that must not be sacrificed to the whims of a few.
