Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha for her Cash-for-Query Scandal! However, TMC’s political raaj has given this sort-of-incumbent MP the ability to snatch another victory. Mahua has taken a commanding lead in the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency against the BJP’s Amrita Roy! Looks like the ‘Eggs For Energy‘ woman shall barge into the 18th Lok Sabha in 2024. Â
Mahua Moitra Leads In Krishnanagar, West Bengal
Initially trailing in the early trends, Moitra has surged ahead of her BJP rival, Amrita Roy. This lead is widening at a significant rate. With more than 30,000 votes in her favor, according to the latest updates from the Election Commission of India (ECI) website, the TMC candidate looks ready to claim victory!
A Fierce Electoral Battle Unfolds
The Krishnanagar constituency has been a traditional bastion of the TMC since 2009. This year the constituency saw star campaigners descend into their midst to entice votes. HM Amit Shah and PM Modi went onthe ground to bat for the BJP. They mounted a fierce electoral battle by endorsing Amrita Roy, also known as ‘Rajmata’ (Queen Mother), against Mahua Moitra. However, Roy’s candidacy began an intensely charged political atmosphere. Her title as an erstwhile Queen Mother and her family’s history was used effectively by the TMC worker. There were also reports of denial of permissions for Amrita Roy to conduct rallies.Â
Mahua Moitra: The Controversial Cash-for-Query Scandal
Mahua Moitra is known as the foul-mouthed, loud-volume parliamentarian. Her public separation from her ex-boyfriend revealed an ugly side to her personal and professional life. Moreover, her journey to this momentous lead is marred by TMC’s controversial gunda raaj in the region.Â
Last year, Mahua Moitra faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha after her involvement in a cash-for-query scandal. Mahua Moitra accepted money and favors in exchange for raising Adani-related questions in Parliament. Her parliamentary access was up for sale for anyone with the right incentive. She remains under investigation by both the CBI and the ED.
A Black Day For Democracy – Moitra’s Triumph?Â
Bombs and blood were the theme for West Bengal this election cycle.
The desperate TMC supremo stopped at nothing to ensure that democracy failed in the state. Booth rigging, roll rigging, fake Voter ID, threatening of opponents, and even death were the consequences served up by the TMC for oppposing its rule.
Thus, as Mahua Moitra gets ready to crown her victory, may she also count up the cost the common man bore for her projected triumph. This potential victory will be a black day for democracy! Why? Because despite proven dishonesty, Mahua Moitra and TMC will be representing the ‘will’ of the people whom they have suppressed to gain electoral victory!
