The Incident of Mainpuri
The distressing events occurred within the jurisdiction of Kuravali Police Station. The victim, unable to bear the constant pressure and threats from Wasif, resorted to hanging herself. On 3rd August, Mainpuri Police apprehended Wasif after the victim’s father filed a formal complaint, registering a case against him.
Accusations and Harassment
Wasif pressured the young woman to convert to Islam and perform Nikah (Islamic marriage) with him. He threatened to make an obscene video of her viral on social media if she refused his demands. On the day of her suicide, Wasif threatened to throw acid on her face if she did not agree to his terms.
The victim’s father, who works as a driver in Delhi, mentioned in his complaint that Wasif, son of Aslam Ansari, harassed his daughter for some time. Despite the victim informing her family about the harassment, the fear of social defamation prevented them from approaching the police initially.
Family’s Efforts and Neglect
The victim’s father attempted to address the issue by speaking to Wasif’s family. However, his pleas met with abuse. Wasif’s family insisted that the Nikah would take place with the Hindu girl. The escalating threats and harassment culminated in the tragic event on 29th July. Wasif’s ultimatum pushed the victim to the brink.
Police Action
Mainpuri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Kumar addressed the incident on X.
