Chittagong witnessed an act of violence when a mob from Kadam Mobarak Jam e Masjid attacked a peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi procession. As the idol made its way to Cheragi Pahad, the mob hurled hot water and stones at the sacred statue. This deliberate act of aggression sparked outrage and exposed the deepening religious divide in Bangladesh, especially after the recent government change.

Attack on Devotion: Stones, Hot Water and Growing Hatred Chittagong
The Ganesh idol procession, accompanied by joyous chanting, turned chaotic when individuals from the mosque launched their unprovoked attack. Stones and hot water rained down on the idol and the devotees, disrupting what should have been a peaceful celebration. The attackers spread hateful messages, urging others to join the violence.

One message read, “Today, while the Hindus were taking idols from Kadam Mubarak Masjid in Chittagong, some Muslim brothers had an argument with the Hindus. Then our brothers locked up 2 Hindu children in the mosque but by then the matter spread and Hindus came here. Come here too, tell everyone that Hindus have come to destroy the mosque, otherwise not many people will come. Everyone spread the word quickly.”

Bangladesh Islamic Student Camp Escalates Threats
The Bangladesh Islamic Student Camp used the mosque’s loudspeakers to incite further violence. They announced, “No puja can be done in Bangladesh. Those who want to do puja should go to India, otherwise today I will just give hot water from above and next time I will slaughter them. Idol worship will not continue in the country of 90% Muslims, inshallah.”

Since the new government took control, such hateful speech and violence have surged. Islamists now feel emboldened, and the Hindu minority faces unprecedented attacks. The power shift brought a wave of hostility, pushing Bangladesh toward ethnic cleansing of Hindus.
Ethnic Cleansing of Hindus
The government’s failure to act on these threats has allowed extremists to target Hindus with impunity. Hindu homes burn, temples lie desecrated, and families flee in fear, while Islamist groups gain ground. Hindus now face an alarming ethnic cleansing campaign, where violence against them is not only tolerated but encouraged by extremist factions.
The attackers not only desecrated the Ganesh idol but also beat two Hindu men who dared to ask why. Their attempt to seek answers led to their brutal beating and detention, while the authorities remained silent. This violent silencing of anyone seeking justice reflects the increasing lawlessness in the country.
Hindus Beaten for Seeking Answers
When two Hindu men tried to question the mob about the attack, they met brutal force instead of an explanation. The mob detained and beat them for merely seeking answers, demonstrating the dangerous climate that now grips Bangladesh. The country’s new regime, aligned with Islamist forces, has not intervened to protect these communities.
Where Is Justice? A Nation Spiraling Toward Intolerance
The violent attack on the Ganesh idol and the brutal treatment of innocent devotees highlight a disturbing trend in Bangladesh. The government’s inability to control Islamist factions has left Hindus vulnerable to relentless persecution. Since the regime change, religious intolerance has increased, and extremists now dictate law and order in many areas.
Hindus across Bangladesh face a grim reality, with entire communities uprooted, their sacred temples under attack, and their very existence threatened. The government’s refusal to act gives extremists the green light to continue their ethnic cleansing efforts.
Justice and Protection Chittagong
The assault on the Ganesh idol in Chittagong reflects the larger pattern of violence gripping the country. Bangladesh faces a choice: either restore law and order or descend further into chaos. The international community cannot stand by while an entire community faces systematic erasure.
The Hindu community cannot continue living in fear. Authorities must take swift action to stop these extremists, hold them accountable, and protect the nation’s religious diversity. The world watches as Bangladesh stands at a crossroads, and history will remember those who acted—or failed to act—during this dark chapter.
