Indian Universities Record Highest Growth Among G20 Countries!

The latest QS World University Ranking report has been released. Its numbers reveal that the ranking of the Indian universities have significantly improved. Mr Nunzio Quacquarelli, CEO and Managing Director of QS Quacquarelli Symonds congratulated PM Modi on this significant achievement.

Commending the leadership of PM Modi he wrote on X, “Under @narendramodi‘s leadership, the last 10 years have seen continued improvement in performance of Indian universities in QS World University Rankings. 46 institutions compared to 11 in 2015, a 318% increase in 10 years, the best amongst the G20.”

Responding to this news, PM Modi, complimented the students and the faculty for their hard work. He wrote, “Over the last decade, we have focused on qualitative changes in the education sector. This is reflected in the QS World University Rankings. Compliments to the students, faculty and institutions for their hard work and dedication. In this term, we want to do even more to boost research and innovation.”

Performance of Indian Universities…

The QS report revealed that impressively, 61% of the Indian universities have ascended in their rankings. India, with its 46 ranked institutions has the third largest representation in Asia. Japan has 49 institutions and China has 71 ranked universities.

IIT-Bombay holds the highest rank amongst all Indian institutions. It has made remarkable progress by soring high from 149th rank last year to 118th rank this year. IIT- Delhi’s on the other hand has climbed 47 positions from 197th to 150th position. While IISC Bangalore, ascended 14 positions from 225th to 211th.

In addition, IIT Kharagpur rose from 271st to 222nd in the world rankings to take fourth place among Indian universities. In similar fashion, IIT Madras advanced 58 places, from 285th to 227th.

The University of Delhi (DU) has significantly advanced, moving up 79 spots from 407th place previously to 328th place, securing 7th place among Indian universities.

IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee have also advanced significantly, coming in at 383rd and 344th positions respectively. The Anna University stands at 477th position. The report further highlights that as many as 37 Indian universities have improved in citations per faculty. Thereby, indicating increased output in research.

IIT- Bombay has between 2018 to 2022, generated 143,800 citations from earlier 15,905 academic papers. Its research output has grown by approximately 17%. The report further stated that 30% of its research output is published in top 10% of academic journals. Thereby, surpassing the global average by 6% and Indian average by 15%. In the same time period, IIT-Delhi has generated 2,21,496 citations. Its research growth being approximately 47%.
