Minor Muslim Girl Driven to Suicide Attempt After Extremist Threats for Hugging Hindu Teacher

Must Read

A deeply disturbing incident from Anantnag district of South Kashmir has once again exposed the growing radicalisation and moral decay gripping sections of society. A minor Muslim girl attempted suicide after facing relentless rape and murder threats from Islamist extremists, all because she had hugged her Hindu teacher, Vipin Sharma, during a school event.

The moment, meant to symbolise affection and respect towards a teacher, was twisted into a “crime” by hate-filled radicals. The video of the hug, which circulated widely on social media, triggered a torrent of abuse and intimidation. The child, traumatised by the online attacks, was forced to issue a video apology, but even that failed to stop the hate campaign.

A Child Punished for Humanity

According to reports, the hug occurred during an academic programme where the girl spontaneously expressed gratitude to her teacher. The response from Islamist elements, however, revealed the dangerous hold of extremist ideology in parts of Kashmir.

Within hours, radicals began spreading the video, issuing death and rape threats to the girl and her family. Several individuals even invoked “religious honour” to justify their vile behaviour, weaponising faith to intimidate a child. Under such sustained psychological torment, the minor reportedly attempted suicide, a tragic outcome that has sparked widespread outrage.

Family Speaks Out Against Hypocrisy

The girl’s mother and relatives have publicly condemned the harassment, questioning the moral legitimacy of those hiding behind religion to terrorise a child. “Is this what religion teaches — to threaten a minor for showing respect to her teacher?” the family asked, highlighting the complete moral inversion of those claiming to defend “honour.”

Their anguish mirrors the fear felt by many ordinary families in Kashmir who remain trapped between extremism and silence, aware that speaking out can invite social ostracism or worse.

Legal Action and Official Response

The Anantnag Child Welfare Committee (CWC) swiftly took cognisance of the incident and directed that all videos of the girl be removed from social media. The panel also warned of strict action against those circulating the footage or issuing threats.

Police officials have confirmed that death and rape threats to a minor constitute a non-bailable criminal offence, carrying imprisonment of up to seven years under the Indian Penal Code. The CWC has recommended that the case be transferred to the Cyber Crime Cell for a deeper probe into those inciting hate.

A Glimpse into Radical Decay

The incident in Anantnag is not isolated; it is a reflection of the deep-rooted radicalisation that continues to plague sections of Kashmiri society. From attacking schoolgirls for not wearing a veil to celebrating violence in the name of “honour,” such acts reveal how extremist interpretations of religion have begun to override humanity and law.

This moral corrosion, if left unchecked, threatens not just Kashmir’s fragile peace but the pluralistic fabric of India itself. In a nation where teachers are revered as ‘gurus’ and students are taught the value of respect, the persecution of a child for showing affection to a mentor represents a disturbing regression.

Why Society Must Take a Stand

The normalisation of radical behaviour, through online mobs, silence of moderates, and selective outrage, poses one of the gravest threats to India’s social harmony. The state can legislate, and law enforcement can prosecute, but unless civil society collectively rejects such extremism, the problem will persist.

This case is a grim reminder that when religion becomes a tool for intimidation, innocence becomes its first casualty. The idea of India, where faith coexists with freedom, cannot survive if such fanaticism is allowed to spread unchallenged.

Vigilance Beyond Outrage

Even after years of exposure through social media, the radical mindset remains emboldened. Whether it is “spit jihad” incidents in restaurants or threats against teachers and students, these acts stem from the same ideological rot, one that seeks to divide, dominate, and destroy trust within society.
