Waris Pathan’s Hijab Mayor Remark and Mumbai’s Demographic Shift

Must Read

“One day, even a woman who wears a hijab could become Mayor of Mumbai, and God willing, that day will come,” national spokesperson for All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Waris Pathan said on December 25, 2025. He explicitly questioned why those with names like Khan, Pathan, Sheikh, or Qureshi are not already in that position.

This was not a call for “inclusion.” It was a cold calculation based on shifting numbers. What Waris Pathan voiced openly is what many “peacefuls” pursue quietly: the demographic replacement of Hindus to seize political power. He isn’t banking on a change of heart in the electorate; he is banking on a change in the population arithmetic of the city.

Demography Is Destiny: The Mumbai Shift

This confidence is rooted in hard data, not political coincidence. To understand the scale of this transformation, one must compare historical records with the findings of the November 2024 TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) report. The shift over the last six decades reveals a massive alteration of Mumbai’s social fabric.

In 1961, Hindus were a majority at 88%, while the Muslim population stood at just 8%. By the 2011 Census, the Hindu share had plummeted to 66%, while the Muslim share nearly tripled to 21%.

More alarming is the November 2024 TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) report, which notes that illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar is driving a massive shift. The report projects that by 2051, the Hindu population could drop below 54%, while the Muslim population could exceed 30%. For Waris Pathan, these aren’t just statistics; they are the building blocks of a future Mayoralty. When demography changes, the cultural and political soul of the city follows.

The Resistance: “Mumbai has Hindutva DNA.”

The response from those committed to Mumbai’s civilizational roots was immediate. BJP leader Nitesh Rane gave a firm rebuttal:

“Mumbai has Hindutva DNA… only a ‘Bhagwadhaari’ will become mayor.”

Nitesh  Rane’s statement highlights the core of the conflict. It is a battle between those who see Mumbai as a bastion of Sanatan culture and those who see it as a target for demographic capture. Shiv Sena leaders added that the Mayor’s chair belongs to the “Marathi Manus” and the city’s Hindu character, not to identity-driven vote banks created through illegal settlement.

These leaders realize that Waris Pathan’s vision is an attempt to turn Mumbai into a laboratory for identity-driven vote bank politics, fueled by illegal demographic shifts.

If Hindus remain fragmented, they invite those who use demography as a weapon to take control.

Bangladesh Shows Where This Road Ends

We do not need to imagine what happens when demographic shifts result in Islamist radical control. We are seeing a live example in Bangladesh. Since the transition to the current regime, the “peaceful” mask has slipped.

Hindus are being lynched in broad daylight. A horrific example is Dipu Chandra Das, who was burned alive by a mob using “blasphemy” as a convenient excuse. In these moments, the police do not come. The courts do not intervene.

The entire institutional framework, captured by Islamist radicals, renders the minority Hindu population completely defenseless. This is the final stage of demographic replacement: a slow erasure followed by a sudden wave of violence that no law and order can stop.

Mumbai: The Financial Heart of Bharat

Mumbai is not just the capital of Maharashtra; it is India’s financial nerve center. Its municipal control determines zoning, policing priorities, permissions, and everyday governance. A Mayor is not merely ceremonial in such a city.

The revenue generated in Mumbai powers the entire nation. If Mumbai is captured through demographic arithmetic, the financial pulse of India falls into the hands of those who do not prioritize Sanatan interests. When political power flows from numbers alone, the “minorities” of the new order are left exposed. Bangladesh did not arrive at its present state overnight; it moved there step by step.

Batenge toh Katenge, Ek rahenge toh Safe rahenge

We must remember the timeless wisdom: “संगठन में ही शक्ति है” (Strength lies in unity). The current fragmentation of the Hindu vote is an invitation to civilizational collapse.

If Hindus do not consolidate and recognize the threat of replacement today, they will have no one to call upon when the “hijab mayor” vision becomes a reality. Unity is not just a political choice; it is our only means of survival. The question is no longer what Waris Pathan said, it is whether Hindus are willing to understand what it means for their future.
