On 5th April 2024, media erupted with reports alleging BJP’s Sai Prasad was complicit in the Bengaluru blast. They termed detainment by the NIA as a witness to a direct connection to violent crime. The fake charge reverberated through political circles, with the Congress party loyalists amplifying the narrative with every tweet. Accusations flew, painting innocent Sai Prasad as a key suspect in the case, despite knowing the names of the three ‘peacefuls’ who were held accountable for the blasts. Despite the known facts, the propaganda machinery continued to spew venom against Hindus and the BJP.
The Reality: Clarifications and Contradictions
Amidst the chaos, contradictory reports emerged, shedding doubt on the initial accusations. The NIA swiftly issued a press release clarifying Sai Prasad’s status as a witness, not an accused, in the case.
Further investigations revealed that Sai Prasad sold his phone to a mobile shop.
This same phone was purchased by the accused in the Rameshwaram Cafe Blast case from the shop.
The NIA wanted Sai Prasad to give statements in this regard.
There was no direct connection between Sai Prasad and the blast suspects.

However, media sensationalism and political posturing clouded the facts, perpetuating confusion and misinformation. Congress spokesperson also participated in spreading these lies to initiate a hate campaign against the BJP. Some CON party leaders went so far as to ask for the resignation of the PM on the basis of this misinformation. The entire episode sank into the quicksand of half-knowledge and incorrect facts.

The NIA had to issue a public notice to quell the growing misinformation spirals. Firstly, it reiterated the importance of confidentiality in ongoing investigations. Then, it emphasized the distinction between an accused and a witness. Finally, the agency underscored the risks posed by premature disclosure of the identities of witnesses in a terrorist attack.
The NIA clearly named the primary accused Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Mateen Taahaa of Thirthahalli, Shivamogga District.
It also stated that Muzammil Shareef of Khalsa, Chikkamagaluru provided logistic support to the primary accused.
Thus, he is also charged as a co-conspirator in the blasts.
Please note, that the NIA clearly named the accused and refrained from mentioning BJP’s Sai Prasad. In fact, it asked the media to not disclose the name of anyone related to the case as their safety might be compromised. Despite the NIA’s attempts to maintain the integrity of the probe, irresponsible reporting, and political grandstanding might be undermining the pursuit of justice in this case of urban terrorism.
