Chaurasia, as a law student from Pune, probably is aware of all the possible legal loopholes. He insists that the accident was not due to reckless driving or intoxication. In his statement, he claimed that he was driving at around 50 km/h when his vehicle hit a pothole, causing him to lose balance momentarily. This impact triggered the airbags to deploy, obstructing his vision and making him lose control of the car.
He expressed remorse, stating he wished to meet the victim’s family and take responsibility for what happened.
He also denied consuming alcohol. As per him, he only attended a Holika Dahan event before the accident. However, police are investigating whether he had been drinking earlier that evening.

Several eyewitnesses contradicted Chaurasia’s claims. Many stated that his car was traveling at a much higher speed than 50 km/h. Some even mentioned seeing him and his co-passenger drinking before the accident, though no concrete proof has emerged yet.
Local shopkeepers and residents reported that after the crash, Chaurasia showed no immediate concern for the victims. Instead, he allegedly walked out of the car and displayed an unsettling attitude. He tried to play his Hindu card by chanting “Om Namah Shivay.” However, his initial “Aonther Round” and “Om Namah Shivay” only angered the crowd. Analysts suggest that the absurd behavior may be his way of finding a route to the “temporary insansity” defense.
