Mahashivratri Hindu Celebrations Under “Peaceful” Siege

Must Read

Mahashivratri 2025 turned into a battleground in different parts of Bharat. In what was supposed to be a night of devotion and celebration, Hindu devotees instead faced attacks, violence, and intimidation. These incidents raise serious concerns about the growing intolerance towards Hindu religious practices in their own land!

From Bilaspur to Hazaribagh to Delhi, multiple incidents show a pattern of targeted disruptions against Mahashivratri celebrations. The question remains: why is Hindu religious expression being increasingly met with hostility?

Bilaspur: Mahashivratri Devotees Attacked During Sacred Feast

In Himachal’s Bilaspur, Gwalathai region, Hindu truck operators orchestrated a Bhandara to mark Mahashivratri. Devotees wanted to serve free food to all as an act of religious service and tradition in Hindu culture. However, what should have been a peaceful celebration turned into chaos. Allegedly, “peaceful” community members objected to the event and attacked the organizers.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived in a Thar SUV, armed and aggressive, and disrupted the Bhandara.

Hindu leaders, including Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Kamal Goutaam, claimed that the attackers opened fire with the intent to kill. Chaman Kumar, one of the injured, confirmed that the violence erupted solely because the Hindu community insisted on continuing the Bhandara despite opposition. Two Hindus, Hoshiar Singh and Chaman Kumar, sustained serious injuries, along with one Muslim individual.

Currently, the Bilaspur police have dismissed the communal angle of the incident.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bilaspur, Sandeep Dhawal, claimed that the altercation resulted from disputes within the truck union. As per him, there was no religious motive involved. Moreover, the police also denied that any gunshots were fired. Thereby, contradicting the statements of those present at the scene.

Hindu activists, including Prashant K. Ranjan, strongly criticized the police, accusing them of suppressing the truth and ignoring Hindu grievances. Ranjan declared on social media that Hindus would not be silenced. Additionally, he demands that the police take strict action against those responsible. Many Hindus see this attack as an attempt to intimidate them into giving up their religious traditions. They fear that unless strict action is taken, such incidents will only escalate.

Hazaribagh: Mahashivratri Religious Flags Spark Violent Clash

Another disturbing case of violence occurred in Dumroun village, Hazaribagh of Jharkhand. A simple act of hoisting religious flags and installing loudspeakers for Mahashivratri led to a full-blown communal clash. Initially, the dispute started as a verbal argument. However, it quickly escalated into large-scale stone-pelting, arson, and destruction of property.

As the situation spiraled out of control, “peacefuls” targeted Hindu-owned shops, motorcycles, and vehicles, setting them on fire.

Three motorcycles, a Baleno car, and an autorickshaw were torched, while another motorcycle was vandalized. Several individuals were seriously injured in the clash and had to be rushed to Hazaribagh Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.

The district administration responded by deploying a heavy police force to bring the situation under control. Personnel from three police stations, along with senior officials, were stationed in the area to prevent further escalation. Currently, the ASP and other senior officers closely monitor the situation.

Despite the large-scale destruction and targeted attacks, local authorities have not issued any strong condemnation or clarification.

Their reluctance to address the “peaceful” communal nature of the attack has raised further concerns. Many believe that since it is not a BJP or NDA state, the administration is reluctant to highlight how a Mahashivratri was targeted! Unfortunately, this incident was not an isolated conflict but part of a growing trend where Hindu religious celebrations are increasingly being met with “peaceful” hostility and obstruction.

Delhi: University Students Clash Over Festival Observance

The intolerance towards Hindu religious observances was not limited to street clashes. They have penetrated the Mess and Canteens of academic institutions. Hindu students faced opposition when attempting to practice their traditions. A disturbing incident at South Asian University, Delhi, revealed how even simple religious accommodations are now being challenged.

On Mahashivratri, around 110 Hindu students were observing a fast and had requested satvik food in advance.

The university had made arrangements in two Mess Halls to cater to their needs. However, members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) deliberately disrupted the arrangement. They forcefully served non-vegetarian food alongside satvik meals, knowing it would offend the fasting students.

What started as an argument quickly turned into a physical altercation, with reports of assaults on Hindu students.

Several viral videos from the university surfaced on social media, showing the heated argument and scuffle in the canteen. The attack appeared to be a pre-planned effort to mock and disrupt Hindu religious practices. The South Asian University administration acknowledged the incident and launched an internal inquiry. The Delhi Police were also informed. However, no formal complaint has been filed as yet. The concerned students have already approached the university administration. They demand accountability and action against those responsible for the deliberate provocation.

The university’s PRO confirmed that the administration is looking into the matter and assured that appropriate action will be taken. However, many believe this incident highlights a larger issue of increasing hostility towards Hindu students in institutions where leftist student groups hold influence.

This sentiment shows the deep intolerance bred into the hearts and minds of the “peaceful” community. Under the political protection of opposition leaders, these anti-Hindu attacks are emboldened and fuelled with hatred.

Mahashivratri is a festival of peace, devotion, and spiritual awakening – yet, in 2025, it became a day of violence, fear, and suppression.
